No way Mids like MAC have little HP increase. I race with Macs, when I put them on I gained 27rwhp on my 01 with just FIPK and BBK TB + Hooker catback.

I still have my Macs and my Z is in the 10's now. (but now i did the primary grind mod)

And if you want a good Cali shorty get the BBK 1 3/4 (all others are 1 5/8, JBA, Hooker)

BBK40020 1998-99 Camaro/F-bird LS1 headers (polished ceramic)
Price: $489.99
Brand: BBK
Part Num: DSOBBK40020

built from heavy-wall cnc mandrel bent 1-3/4 in. tubing. each system is finished in a high-quality polished ceramic coating for maximum performance as well as great looks. these headers are an easy do it yourself bolt on and are good for 10-13 rear wheel horsepower.

Actually the BBK's aren't a good cali shorty. They are no more smog legal than longtubes. If you are thinking about running the BBK's you might as well run longtubes. It doesn't sound like BBK has any desire to obtain a CARB # for these either. They say that most of the market for these headers is not in california. This is STUPID to me though. The reason more buyers aren't from CA is because they don't have a CARB #. If they had a CARB # then most of their customers probably would be from CA. The only reason to buy a shorty header is because of the CARB #. How stupid of BBK to market a shorty header without plans for a #. Get a clue BBK, if you want to make money on your shorties...GET A CARB #. BBK is missing out on a big potential market. Were always looking for a better performing CARB header.

sorry, but i disagree.

there not missing out on much. because the majority but LT's.

im telling you. its not hard to find a smog shop that will overlook headers, etc...

just ask around in your area. there are about 30 f-bodys in my area and NONE have shoties..... either LT's or stock!

Did you have cats on just for the test-what kind were they? I'm planning on trying to pass with my longtubes, but hate to add cats if I can pass without them. Ideally I'd like to run some performance ones but with less cat who knows how well they'd pass. I assume you were running that current setup in your signaute with that cam and all.
Ya I guess its better to get longtubes and drive to find a place, hell even driving a few hundred miles in another city is worth the effort in order to pass

here is a link to a company that CNC ports the stock manifolds. I called them and they told me they only port the 01-02 ones and gain consistant 10-12 rwhp. they cost 175 and so a re a cheaper alternative to the shorties, plus it gives more of a stealth look. http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/ click on LS1 performance. I wish they'd change the federal laws on moving cats-its obvious longtubes will pass

You missed my point completely. Obviously most people want/run LT's and BBK isn't missing out those people, they are missing out on PEOPLE WHO WANT SHORTIES. People who want shorties 9.5 times out of ten want them because they are trying to be CARB legal. Why else would you want to buy a shorty? My point is.... why make a shorty header without a CARB #, when this is the prime reason anyone in their right mind would buy a shorty header.

all i had to do was swap the FLP oryp out for there high flow cats that come with the kit. awsome fit! took no time at all. then just put my smog pump back in.

and it passed with flying colors! my tech said it was time for a bigger cam!

he said when your cats are new.... (mine had never been used yet) that they soak up everything up like a sponge!

good luck to you guys!
