Default How to Install Headers...

are their any websites or places where I can find a write up on how to go about doing this?

Some people say you have to remove starter, some dont. Some say remove oil filter some dont. Some say you have to lift the engine up,some dont etc...

So any info would help out.

BTW, Im installing Pacesetters with the hookups and an ORY onto an 2002 Trans Am.
Thanks for your time guys.

hey thanks for your response man, ive read that thread so many times that I feel confident about the install, just these other little things like removing the starter and jacking up the engine and more. I guess I should of specified in my title.

Thanks though I appreciate it.

oh, yeah no problem man.

When I installed my Pacesetters they just slid right in. I did not remove, cut, or modify anything. There were no problems getting them go in. Most people who install them have no problems as well. So you most likely will get them in without issues. If you do run into problems just post on here and we will help ya out

I agree. I did not cut , remove, spindle fold or mutilate anything to install the pacesetters except get the coil packs up out of the way. I did, however remove the pass side heat shield above the collector after the install.
Just make sure you have a decent floor jack if you don't have access to a lift, as you need to get the front up there higher than Rhino Ramps. I bought a Pro-Lift speed jack at Advance Auto for about $86, well worth it. (and a heavy ba$tard it is).

I didn't do any cutting, pasting, moving, unbolting starters/alternators/concentrators/relaxators... I just unbolted the old exhaust and then slid the new headers right up in there without force. This was with the pacesetter headers done on two vehicles, '98 and '00, both went smooth.

Do it yourself. Save that cash. Get a 10mm and 11mm ratchet wrench(will help a lot with the header bolt that is on the passenger side, next to the firewall). The steering shaft might get in your way, if it does take it off. My off road ypipe hit a little bit but a little grinding on the plate that goes over the catback-ypipe connection will cure this(might want to space the plate with some washers to get a little more clearnce). It took me about 9 hrs or so, but i took my time to make sure it was done right. Good luck.

Ive sat in the garage looking at the engine for hours, and from the looks of everything, Im hoping that everything will just slide in.

I just installed my Pacesetters and ORY last weekend. It's a very straight forward install. My only advice would be to buy a 10mm ratcheting wrench with a flexible head. Besides that just take off the coil pack assemblies for extra clearance and get to work.

I don't have access to a lift and I only have one jack... I am getting ready to pay $400 for installations at a shop. At least I know they'll do a good job.

Go buy a jack and stands....youll spend less than 400, will do it urself, have the knowledge, and will still have the jack/stands afterwards. Its not a bad install at all.

That's your perogative. It cost me about $110 for a decent floor jack and heavy duty jack stands, a lot of sweat, a little blood, and my wife holding up the headers for me, but I'm glad I did it. If my old *** can do it, I'm sure most can. ...and I did it on the ground, no cement or asphalt. (gotta love that grass in your ear)
