Default Should i Get Cutouts?

Ite, here is my situation. I have LT Pacesetters running to an uncatted TSP Y-Pipe which merges to the I and the I leads to the Flowmaster Muff. To be honest, i thought it would sound loud after i put on LTs and removed the cats. But as it turns out, my car got quieter WTF? It has an "airy" sound to it and it's almost like a whistle from inside the car. Kind of a whisper sound with a little bit of thunder, but not much thunder at all.

Here's what i would like to know. I ran my car open headers for about 2 weeks, BTW best sound i've ever heard ANY car ever make before. Tis a shame i can't keep it like that . I was wondering if cutouts would make my car sound like what it did when it was basically open? If i put 2 cut outs right past the headers on both ends of the "Y" part of the pipe, would that give me the same sound? I've also heard i could go the cheap route and only by one cutout and put it on the I pipe. What difference would that make, sound and performance wise. All i'm looking for right now is the sound of the open engine, much like what i had about 3 days ago.

If you get a cutout after the merge on the Y (on the I) you'll have realllllly bad rasp if your trying to run it daily driver (I'm driving open ORY atm and rasp is bad from 2000-2500rpms). If your trying to get a better daily driving sound I say (I know you hear this a lot but it's for a reason) swap in a different muffler. Go to http://ls1sounds.com/ and see what sound you like the best!

Edit: If you get 2 cutouts right after headers it will sound like it did when it was running open but I've heard that you run slower in the 1/4 running through open headers than through open Y. Can anyone confirm this?

Confirmed that my car ran faster (acceleration wise) with open headers. Dunno about quarter.

So you would suggest 2 cutouts right behind the headers? Only problem is the stupid O2 sensors (check engine light dangit!). Just because the O2 sensors read more fresh air near exhaust doesn't mean it's hurting anything does it?

Well my personal opinion, I would do the cutout at the Y for track, and swap in a good mufler for daily driving. Reason being is because when I ran open headers, it was cool for about 3 hours then got real annoying. Plus when you floor it there's no tone it just sounds..... loud....

i have the same setup and m car sounds fine with a cutout. Does sound really airy through the catback, but open the cutout and its a beast. I ran open headers for like 2 weeks and it was cool until i actually needed to drive my car. Joyriding it is fine, but having to function with a car that loud is hard.

I run dual cutouts after the headers and love it!!

I drive to work in the am with them closed, then on the way home, open them up!
If you loved the sound of open headers, like i did, get dual cutouts. It was worth the money to me. I've had MANY compliments on my car, when they were open.
