Default WTF.... Need Help?

I'm trying to put a set f long tubes on my car and I've come to the conclusion that I'm too light and/or weak to work on my car.
Last night I SOAKED all the bolts in Aerokroyl figuring it would loosen them up for today.
Now I only wiegh 150Lbs, so whenever I attempt to get a goddamn bolt or O2 sensor out I just end up slididng myself along the ground.
WTF maybe I'm just too weak (I should have kept workin out all those times I just kept gettin lazy) but I mean I'm stronger than most of my friends. I mean how much do you hve to bench to be able to work on an LS1??

But seriously what am I doing wrong?? How the hell do I get these ****** bolts out??

I mean I have an air compressor and an air ratchet but I'm afraid I gonna break my ****** wrist or just slam my hands in my car and cut off some of my fingers.

I weigh just as much as you. YOu should be able to stop the air ratchet before it smashes your hands. grip it with both hands and be ready for it. you can also use two wrenches. One wrench on the end of the other wrench. My pops taught me that years ago. Works extremely well.

some techniques i used was to add a length of metal pole onto the end of the rachtet giving you more leverage, also if you can use heat to help loosen them on that also works.

I'm a skinny guy as well (140 soaking wet) and here's what I do when trying to break a bolt loose. If you have enough room, hit the handle of your ratchet/wrench with a hammer (use a heavy hammer, not the ones for driving nails) and never use a hammer with a claw as you could catch your fuel or brake lines on the back swing and bust them open. When using the hammer method its best to use a 6 point socket and hold the socket on with your free (non-hammer) hand. Or buy a ratchet with a long handle, the extra length gives you more leverage or like someone else said take piece of fence post and slid it over your ratchet to get leverage. Good Luck!

Torch it, thats what I did......Torch those bolts until they are red hot, then loosen them up, that will do the trick. Of course youll need access to a blow torch if you dont have one. The hammer on the wrench works pretty well too.

Also buy good mechanic gloves. I did work on my car for 5 years without them and always tore the snitz out of myself. This year I bought gloves and it really helps for cranking as you're not as afraid to cut yourself. I also weigh 185 so for you the longer stick will be of help.

Sometimes a sudden hit to the wrench will break the bolt loose, the constant pressure sometimes will not be enough to break the torque of the bolt, but a sudden smack will do it.
The others advising using a longer wrench (3 foot 1/2 inch drive breaker bar is my favorite tool for that type of situation) or heat, or air tools, those solutions will also work

Sometimes the best tool in the garage is a length of pipe slid over a racket/wrench.

Just be careful not to break any bolts off...if you think getting the whole bolt out is a bitch....

The pieces of pipe are a good way to break a ratchet/wrench, and f*ck something up (I'm as guilty as the next guy of doing it, but it's not really a good idea)

OK thanks guys, actually I ended up using a piece off of my jack as a breaker bar... worked like magic.

Now I'm currenly trying to get the farthest bolt out of the passenger side manifold, and wondering If I should use the old gaskets or the papar ones.

Any thoughts or opinions are more than welcome.

Old gaskets by far, the paper ones will blow out.

New MLS (stock) gaskets from GM are fairly cheap, and I've had no problems / leaks since I installed my headers.

i second that, i dont know about all you snap-on/mac guys but the autozone/pepboys/sears tools all break when you put breakers on them, of not the ratchet then the socket. especially if it isnt 1/2 inch drive. surprisingly i havent had to use a breaker bar on my car except for taking the lugnuts off, which after that were pretty good and round so i had to order new ones, i swear they are making lugnuts softer and softer these days.

on another note, does it make sense for the lock nut key to be stronger than the lock? The way i see it, i'd rather replace the key than get a lugnut cut off but the manufacturers dont always see things my way.
