O2 Extension Fried
I have been recently experiencing horrible "hiccups" in my 99 WS-6 at low RPMS. I took it in to have the computer check it out and it came up on the program that the O2 sensor was "insufficient". The guy told me your O2 sensor is either fried or not working properly. So i took it home, put it on the jack, and looked underneath. My O2 sensor seemed to be fine but the 24" O2 extension had had it's protective covering melted off. The O2 extension runs RIGHT next to my LT Pacesetters. At one point it was touching, it's not now b\c what was touching has melted away and now the wires are exposed with less than an inch of space between them and the headers. I know i'm going to have to replace my O2 extension but i wanted to double check that it's the O2 extension that is causing these problems. I mean, the wires were exposed but seemed to be completely intact. Could the heat be interferring (sp?) with the electrical junk? I dunno. I was hoping you guys could help me out. Also, when i do get a new O2 extension, where the freak am i going to run it? I can't let it hang. I can't put it back where it was before b\c the same thing will happen again. Any ideas?
He also mentioned that since i installed LT's i'll need to upgrade my spark plugs and wires. Is this true? He said your stock ones can't handle the heat that aftermarket headers give off. If so, what will i need to get?
