Default Coolant Issue:

I recently changed my coolant, and didn't know I had to use the GM approved stuff. I'd never heard anything about it. I put the green stuff in. Now what? I went down to AutoZone and picked up the good stuff, but the guy behind the counter told me to NEVER mix them.

Now what? Do I have to go pay to have a coolant change paid for so I can get the stuff out of the block?

Thanks fellas.

or you could buy a backyard flush kit from autozone...but do not mix them! I also remember reading somewhere on here that the green stuff is not formulated for aluminum so get it out as soon as possible.

I have called a GM dealership about this before, because this was one of the many mistakes I've made on my car. As I have been told, the 2 fluids are incompatible, and the green coolant will have a tendency of attacking the block. They also said that my coolant will need changed every 20k miles instead of the regular schedule that's listed in the manual.

It will need changed every 20K if you keep the green, or simply because it had been in your car at one time? Are you running the orange now?
