Default FlowMaster

Ok, I read the 'READ THIS GUIDE BEFORE' Guide, and I noticed that it said that FLowmasters are the worst flow, however they sound good. First thing when I got this car, had gotten Flowmasters Installed. My Best 1/4 times was 13.5 and lately it has been a 13.8 and a 14.0, which sux. All I have known is the Flowmaster, so my question is this -- does it seriosly hurt power, if I were to switch to Magnaflow, would there be a power gain due to better flow? I am also about to install Headers as well as Cut-Out. Let me know if I should change becuase Flowmaster is really that bad for the LS1.

Its not that Flowmaster just doesnt work for the LS1, most of their mufflers have bad flow characteristics period when compared to other aftermarket mufflers. As for your track times, a muffler isnt going to change your times by a whole half sec., thats not what the problem is there, a Flow master probably outflows the stock muffler anyways...

If you like the sound of the flowmaster, just throw a cutout on there. Make a pass w/ it open and w/ it closed, and see how much time your losing w/ it thru the flowmaster.
With Magnaflow, the cutout will be more of a pain in the *** to open/close than the performance gain you'll see. Most people will see 1-2 hp w/ a cutout over magnaflow just b/c they flow so well.

Magnaflow doesn't sound that much different than the Blowmaster either. Buddy of mine has it on his SS and they sound pretty similar.

Have a Exhaust shop do your y pipe shouldnt be more than 180 installed, then while your under there besure to check that all of your exhaust is at least 2.5. side note i used a magnaflow y collector fits good! Dont spend the money for a difference you wont notice its foolish. There is nothing wrong with store bought lol

my friend guy off someone's flowmaster and he dropped from 13.6 to 13.1 in the 1/4. Could have also had better shifts, caught better traction. etc.

You have more issues than the Flowmaster causing the loss of times. The Flowmaster is not going to become more restrictive with age. Your prob could be anything from track prep, suspension, driver technique, or your car needing a tune. The real gauge of HP is MPH trap speed more than 1/4 mile ET. A loss in MPH will clue you in to this.

I had a Magnaflow rear section when my car was nearly stock...and thought it was too quiet. Went to the Flowmaster cat-back. 1/4 mile times were unchanged at 13.9 with both. So, yes, the Flowmaster does have worse flow compared to a Magnaflow (as a Magnaflow muffler alone = a Flowmaster catback!) But, it's probably worth .2 at most on the track. I personally think the Flowmaster sounds nice on the street, especially in a cam and header car. A cutout will negate the need to add a different muffler if you are worried about max track performance. Cheaper too. I guess the big question to ask: Is 10HP or .2 gain worth the $450 cost of a Magnaflow + install and shipping?

BTW, with a Flowmaster, 224 cam, intake, tune, and LT headers I'm putting out 375RWHP. That's about what the TR224 cam is rated to do.....so......
