thermostat problems????

i was just told today to change my thermostat back to a 180-degree TS cause the 160 TS has a problem in the long term area. has anyone ever had any longterm problems or even any problems with a 160 degree TS???

Not in the last 3 years and probably 90,xxx miles since I modded mine. Besides, the fan turn-on/off temps probably affect the engine temp more. If you're still running stock fan programming then the only diff you'll see is a little slower to warm up in cooler weather-with adjusted fan turn on temps, the cooler thermostat just gives a little head start on maintaining lower water temps in hot weather. IMO the stock fan turn on temps are nuts in a hot climate, especially.

I had one, but it only lasted about 2 years, had to go back to the stock 180. Overheated twice on me.

i have had mine on the car for 3 years, adjsut fan temps in the tune accordingly and dont worry about it

i just got the slp fan control switch put on, that is going to help?

that will help so you actually can take advantage of the tstat being colder. id rather have the tune set up correctly though to have the fans come on and off, but thats just me

The fans temp settings are a good option to help keep temps cooler, but if the t-stat is bad it will still overheat. My opinion is to stick with the stock 180, at least until someone comes out with a better 160. Powerstat doesn't last very long.

I've only known a couple of people who have had them, but mine could have just been a bad one. It looked fine when I pulled it out, but the car keep overheating until I finally changed it out.
If you do a search on powerstat you may find some simular complaints, at least I did.
