Is it worth a swap from Macs to long tubes?
I would say, if you didn' t have ANY headers, go with LTs. Since it seems like you are "stepping up" from MACs, the additional money may not be worth it. I know I like the look of the T304 SS better than the coatings.
The ceramic coating that came on the macs I got from speed inc 4 years ago still looks very good. I am not sure if they used Jet hot coatings or who else but they did a great job. As for sound, with the Edelbrock cat back on the car this car sounds bad ***. Very little rasp but deep rumble, it just does not flow to great so That is what I have a cutout for.
The dyno power went from 365 to 390 with the cut out open.
And if I remember correctly, I went 12.6x to around 12.19. But that was also going from a 10 bolt to a 9".
You could mod those macs and maybe get 10 more HP. Port the openings of the primaries, grind down the welds for better fow.
And I hear of people cutting the ball flang off and weld a 3 bolt flat flang to them.
And maybe get a bigger Y made for it.
When I put the flp's on, I ported the openings of the primaries. You can actually look in there and see the welds. Not any more. There smooth inside now.
I also have Macs on my son's 94 Z28 and I think they are great. I did have to clean out the welds in all the ports and in the collector, but they really woke up that LT1.
