Default Why do cutouts have to leak????

My exhaust is as follows:

LT Pacesetters---> TSP 3" Y-pipe ---> dual QTP Stainless Steel cutouts---> Flowmaster Muff.

The cutouts of course sound awesome when they are open but it's too loud for all the time. So i decided to cap them one day. Oh wow. What an annoying noise that was. I start the car up, it sound fine. I drive down the street and there is the aweful *tick tick tick* noise coming from underneath the car. I know it's the cutouts. But how the freak do those things not seal? I capped it with the gasket and everything, even power tooled the bolts down tight. WTF??? I know cutouts are prone to leak but is there ANY way to either reduce it or get rid of the leak all together? Could i use some type of sealant or something? It is REALLY annoying. I knew they might leak, but this loud??? Please help.

They are manual. Bolt on the plate, unscrew the plate with your hands.

Whoever welded on your cutouts might not have done a great job and put some subpar welds on there. Pinholes in the welds could leak loud enough to hear.

electric usually leak over time. manual shouldnt unless the welds suck. if it leaks by the plate try to double up on the gaskets and add some rtv.

Well, i could ask the people who did the welding if they could "touch it up" to make sure. About doubling up on the gaskets, would that really help? From underneath the car, i can't "feel" where it comes out. But it doesn't "sound" like it's comin' out at the cap. Sounds more like at the weld or even at the header collectors.

Check where the Y-pipe hooks up to the headers... I have the Pacesetters, and Pacesetter ORY. I have a slight leak I simply can't get rid of. I've tried standard U-bolt and the Stainless band clamps. Quite a few people I know have this issue.

you can always put a little used oil where you think the leak is and when the pipes get hot you'll see the leak blowing oil smoke. Id reccomend you put some ultra copper on the gasket and use bolts instead of wingnuts if you havent already.

Or i could just put soapy water over the whole cutout and start the car up cold to find where the bubbles blow.

Either way i think it's the weld and not the cap. Seriously, how can it leak through a steel blockoff plate sealed with 3 bolts (machine tight) and a gasket in between? I know exhaust is "persistent" and "forceful" through every opening but this is LOUD dude.
