Default Alt. bolt with short belt solution?

This isn't another "What length for short belt mod?" thread, this is about the alternator bolt that is in the way of the belt. I've done a few searches, but didn't come up with what I was looking for. I know most people just take that bolt off and run without it, but I don't feel comfortable with putting the additional stress on the other two bolts securing the alternator. Is there any solution to run a bolt there that won't rub against the belt? I tried installing the short belt, and mine rubs. I don't think even filing down the bolt head will give me enough clearance. Any ideas?

take the alt bracket off, cut off the small piece that the bolt head stops on. and put it back together. i think you'll need some washers or a bolt with more threads, i don't remember if the bolt runs out of threads or not.
Anyways that way the bolt will still go thru your alt, alt bracket then block instead of alt bracket, alt, alt bracket, block.

LMAO!

I've seen people grind down the head of that bolt to get it to clear.

What I did was cut the bolt about 1/2" from the head, added on about 1" inch of shank from another bolt. I welded a thick washer about 1.5" down from the bolt and reinstalled. Now I have the alternator firmly bolted and no interferance from the short belt.

SUX2BU and WILWAXU, thanks for the info, it helped me out alot. I actually used both methods and ground down the bolt head and alternator bracket to get the clearance I needed. I only have about 1mm clearance, but that should be enough since the belt shouldn't oscillate towards the bolt head. redmist, I still can't figure out what you tried to describe. I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow.
