Default Header Install Finished

Well got the pacetter l/t's installed tonight. Everything went right in place, even on the drivers side. Very happy with how they fit. Ex sweetheart helped with the install. Got everything back together and fired it up with open headers. Damn it was loud as hell and sounded great. Was gonna go for a small spin and it started backfiring and idle raced up and down. It was late and it sounded like a shotgun going off every few seconds. I checked all the plug wired and coil packs and everything seems fine. I took the two 02 sensors that were by the cats and put them in the headers with the new extensions. Do I have to let it run a while for the pcm to relearn itself? I didnt understand it backfiring. Ses light came on wich i figured it would. No o2 sims and i yanked the egr and air both out. Anything else i need to check? It was getting late and decided to stop before I had the PO PO called on me. I got the tsp ory pipe laying here ready to install tomorrow. If anyone has any advice on the back firing please chime in. Thanks,,,,,,,,

well took all the plugs and wires off and looked at them and they look fine. Still has a dead miss and backfires through the passenger side bank at idle everynow and then. Anyone with any ideas?

I asked someone about the same thing, apparently when you run open headers like that, the o2 sensors freak out. They start to read to much oxygen causing the engine to run rich. Now whether this has everything or anything to do with the backfires, im not sure.

i have one thing you shuld check out better. if you moved boath sensors into the headers there is no wonder why the CEL comes on. because the one in or behind the cat is a sensor to make shure the cat is working corectly so you shuld not move it. get a o2 sim for that o2 sensor

install was super easy. i already had everything ready, all stock stuff removed and that took about 2 hours. When i put mine on they slid right in there. I didnt have to mess with the motor mount , heat shield, steering shaft or nothing. I mean these headers went right into place within a min. Only thing i ran across was when i went to put the passenger side in i wasnt high enough. Took just a few seconds to jack it up higher. You will need to get the car pretty high. Thats about it

i just got done installing my headers last night and am gonna finish the TSP offroad Y pipe today, i fired her up and damn open headers is looouuuddd lol, i want to run it with open headers but dont want to burn up my valves so i am gonna put the Y pipe on today and i have a cutout already installed so it should be nice and loud. also recommend the bumpstop for the Y pipe b/c it will bump the floorboard it will definantly help out. i dont know why you would be idling rough unless you didnt put the plug wires on all the way or the plugs all the way in or you could have bad plug wires or plugs. the only hold up i had with the headers was the drivers side it got caught on a square piece on the block just took a rubber mallet and went right in and they look awsome also.

I put LT pacesetters on with no big problems, nothing moved, etc.
I would think shorties would be easy enough.
