My header is not banging though. If it was the header wouldn't it bang like hell if I stomped on it from a stop. It doesn't bang or anything and did yours do it constantly at the same rpm's hot or cold no matter what.

It is definatly not the header hitting the crossmember. I went out at lunch and stuck a broom stick on the header and then held it in place the rattling is still there. This damn car is about to go up for sale because this **** sucks and I am not so sure anymore about it being a bad exhaust leak. I have never heard of an exhaust leak causing a rattle and if it is the rod bearings it will cost me over 2000 bucks to fix that and I do not have the money for that right now. I don't have time to be pulling the block out and digging into it. Plus it may not even be a rod bearing anyways.

I bet you the leak is your header collectors. I got a bad set Damm Pacsetters!. Never will i buy pacesetters. Cheap sack of ****!
I had a leak also had everything welded. It still leaked, exhaust shop said my collectors where leaking!!. Theres no way to weld collectors the pipe is so thin. when you weld it just cuts right them..

BTW my never hit in the engine bay, besides the floor board. I just put some rubber hose.
It still had some vibration.

Got them from summit called them up. They will be happy to exchange them or give me a refund. I said the hell the taking them off. I bought me a o5 gto.
Iam getting kooks or stainless steel works this time!

So the rattle was not there before and its there now, right?

If so then its probably not a bearing, could be an exhaust leak. Just how loud is this noise? Remember, with headers you will get increased noise. If I put my ear near the #1 cylinder it sounds like something is loose in there, but everything is fine, its just the headers transfer the sound more. But its tough to say what hte noise is in your case without actually listening to the car.

Its a pretty loud rattle. That is my thinking to about the exhaust amplifying the noise. It was not there before the headers. I thought bearings show degenrative signs of going out not just bang there is a problem. Also I have not missed a shift or anything bounced of 6200 rpm rev limiter but hell that would do something to a pushrod before it spun a bearing. My old man tells me if you have an exhaust leak it can make all kinds of different noises. I am just hoping for the best here but I am told by people who have heard it first thing that it is a bearing. Also the car has no loss of power so I figured if it was a bearing it would rattle like a sob all the time in those rpm ranges. And if I cruise in 6th at that rpm guess what no rattle.

Have you tried getting the car off of the ground, have someone else rev the engine to the point of making the noise and get underneath there and figure out where it's coming from, if it didn't do it before the headers then I am sure it's not the engine unless you put the headers on and went out and punished it right away. You should be able to pinpoint it pretty quickly. JMO...

Well it is pretty much confirmed to be a rod bearing. I got under there last night and it right at the back of the motor on the bottom end. I have a friend that had a rod bearing go out on him and he says that is exactly what it is. How hard is it to change these bearings can I just drop the oil pan and then rotate the crank to change the bearings or do I have to pull the whole damned motor out. I will be changing oil on wednesday and he told me to put 20-50 oil in there and see if it quites down a little. I didn't beat the **** out of it after the headers where on but I did have some fun with it a few days after they went on I don't see what that would have to do with it.

Finally I got the problem fixed. Alot of you where wrong. It was not a rod bearing but believe it or not it was an exhuast leak at the header flange. I took the header off today and the pos aftermarket gasket and very lightly cleaned the header flange up with a dremel installed an oem gasket there and boom knocking is now gone and the car sounds incredible once again. I do appreciate everyone's insight on this though.

Hmm, that's wierd. I wouldn't think a leak would make the sounds that you were describing.

I wouldn't think so either but after I sealed that header good the noise is now gone. I know the motor is going to need a rebuild shortly but I was spared for the time being I drove it around for about 2 hours tonight and never once did I hear the tick of an exhaust leak or the knock/rattling sound that I had before. The gasket was in very bad shape after only 1 week so I think it may have been a warped header flange.
