Default Motor Mount write up...

I'm in the process of changing my motor mounts. Since I have yet to see any write ups with pics, I'm taking it upon myself to do it. All I have ever seen was "it's a pain in the a$$", or something like that. I know lots of people are afraid to buy/install something without pics. If there is already a write up, post it up and save me some time. If not, I'll post it when I'm done (which sould be tomorrow night).

Mods...if this is in the wrong forum please move it. I posted this here because it is always talked about when doing LTs and and ORY.

Let me know how it goes for you. I'm probably going to start my install tomorrow, or next weekend if I can't fit it in this weekend.

Is the motor mount for an LT1 the same as LS1? I replaced mine when I was doing the headers, so the steering shaft and header were both out of the way.

There is one large bolt holding the mount to the cradle. Four bolts hold the mount to the engine. I jacked up the moter a slight amount and loosened all the bolts but found out that I had to move the alternator out of the way. After I did that, the long bolt holding the mount to the cradle slides right out. I then put the mount in a vice and got out a 3/8" drill bit. You will need to drill out 4 or 5 rivets to take the clamshell apart. Remove the stock rubber piece. Insert the new poly mount and bolt the clamshell closed at 30 ft/lbs. I then spray painted the metal flat black again since I scratched it up in the vice. I then loosely mounted the mount to the block with the 4 bolts. I then inserted a prybar between the cradle and the mount to get everything lined up perfectly. As I did this, my friend slid the log bolt back in. Once it was in, I tightened all the bolts up and put the alternator back on and reinstalled the belts. I also put the small heatshield back on to protect it from the header.

I didn't do the passenger's side and I have seen no ill effects. The car doesn't vibrate any more than before and my ORY doesn't bang. Since I really didn't know what I was doing, it took about an hour to get it off. 30 minutes to change the mount to poly. And about 3 hours to get it aligned perfectly. Loking back and knowing what needs to be removed, the whole thing should take an hour.
