Default Exhaust decisions

hey everyone kinda new here just picked up my 2002 t/a dec 26th already did a lid smooth bellows and green filter and now looking at doing an exhaust system the choices i narrowed it down to are

1. gmmg cat back (then this summer get a custom stainless y and some qtp lt's)
2. corsa catbach and same as ^ with y pipe ect
3. true duals but dunno what kinda mufflers or how much it will cost to have fabbed up (i want it exiting the back over the axle)

any help is apperiated guys

First of all, congrats on picking up the new car. We'll have to see some pics of it sometime.

Out of your choices, I would say go with the GMMG and full exhaust. It has, in many people's opinions, the nicest sound. The QTPs are a good choice, but make sure that the Y-pipe you have made uses some sort of high-flow cats. Otherwise, GMMG gets extremely loud and somewhat obnoxious.

I'm sure you're going to hear many of the true dual advocates rushing in here to tell you that "True duals are the best exhaust, nothing is better and no Y-pipe exhaust can ever equal it! True duals or nothing!!!!" Don't listen to some of the stuff they say. Yes, true duals is a great choice, sounds great, and is the preferred choice for some, but it isn't for everyone. If you'd plan to have it fabbed up over the axle, it will cost a ton. And you'd probably want to make it stainless, which would cost even more. Plus you'd still have to pay for the price of longtubes before you could actually come up with the other parts you'd need for it.

Just my opinion.

He could not have said that better!

But all fun aside. I would say that from having true duals they are a great choice, but I did it out of convenience. I would take a gmmg anyday!

I dont know about GMMG, sure it sounds good...but doesnt seem to loud. Especially for 850$, I'd rather run Duals for that kind of money. You could always dump your duals and put dummy tips on your car (if thats the reason you want them out the back) I was going to go GMMG till I realized you can go duals from the cat-back as well....thanks to SouthFL and Orangepeel!

me? I'd go with 1 of 2 things- a cut-out which gives similar sound and performance to a cat-back system. OR I'd go expensive and do Kooks/QTP LTs with a 2.5" or 3" X-pipe with sweet thunder mufflers.

I am in the same posistion your in buddy, I have been told to stay away from gmmg, sure it sounds badd *** with stock manifolds and y-pipe, but I heard they get ral raspy an anoing when you get longtubes and y-pipe, I am going with magn-flow I heard they have a whide open design that gives you some horsepower, and they sound bad *** withe LT's and even a off-road y pipe (no-Cats).

Hi! I've had several cat backs on my Trans Am:

1) Stock - too quiet
2) B & B - too quiet & nice quality
3) Loudmouth with a Borla XR-1 - too much drone in the interior!
4) Magnaflow - just about right! Nice sound and quiet inside. However, the tips do not look right on the Trans Am - especially from behind.

On its way right now.....

5) Corsa with 3.5" Pro Tips - hopefully this will be the last exhaust for this car! The tips should fill the in the back very well and I expect the sound to be great!

Good Luck in your search!

Right now I got a modified y-pipe w/o CATS & a Hooker Aerochamber muffler. Its loud when under acceleration & screams at WOT. But when sittin still at idle almost as quiet as stock. I'm planning on Pacesetter LT's & real ORY next. I will have my entire exhaust done for under $700 & everyone who has heard it loves it. Go listen the the different Hooker setups on www.LS1sounds.com

True duals...best exhaust, EVAR!!!!!!!!11one

If your wallet ain't deep, don't even think about the duals over the axle. Ask me how I know

Of the options listed, I think you'd be happiest with GMMG. Ask yourself what your end goal is, and go from there. I personally did my custom duals just to be different from everyone else out there. It definitely has a unique sound...
