Are you running the stock MAF? I'm using a Z06 85mm MAF and I have to do the same thing. The lid and MAF are the same exact size both inner and outer. I have used an SLP, and both an MTI black and clear lid. Same thing on all of these. I actually like the fact that it is the exact same size as the most airflow possible.

I have the slp lid and and bellow and have never had a minutes problem with it. It fits great. No trimming at all.

i had the same problem with the clips falling off all the time, then i removed the tray that resides in the bottom of the airbox...works great now

Except now your lid isnt sealing on your filter right, and you are probably getting some unfiltered air sucked in. 99% of the time that people's clips pop off its because they dont have the front lip of the airlid tucked inside the lower airbox like it is supossed to be.
