HELP!! Header install, mac mids
HELP!! Header install, mac mids Got all the old exhaust off, manifolds and cats, ypipe. Could not get the drivers side header to go in from the bottom or the top (per the install guide i got on here) and the passenger seems it will go from the bottom but a piece of the block is keeping it from going. I can remove some of that casting and im sure the pass side will slide up. However i have no luck with the drivers side. I ran out of daylight before i could try unbolting the tranny brace and moving it side to side. Do any of you have any tips or any ideas? Thanks in advance. Did a few searches but didn't find anything helpful as far as the Macs are concerned

is the steering linkage in teh way? many guides say that gets in the way.

I ran into the same problems when installing mine, they take a little bit of work to get in, you "shouldn't" have to undo the linkage but it is possible. I was able to finally get mine in in about 8 hrs after I started
Keep after it. I tried to slide in the driverside header (kook's) on a friends, and couldnt get it for the life of me. I jacked the car up untill i could hold it vertical, and still couldnt get it to go in.
Tried to stab it for 45 minutes, then let my uncle try it. He must have cast a spell on it or somthing, because it almost flew up there on its own

I just got done putting my old macs on a buddy's car yesterday. Driver side header goes in like butter through the top after removing the coilpacks, sparkplugs, and you have to take the steering linkage off. It's only two bolts and comes right off and goes right back on, so no big deal. There's so much clearance it literally will fall all the way through if you drop it!
Passenger header is even easier.....once the old manifold is out, cut off the little casting tab on the side of the block and the mac slides right in from the bottom.
