Default HELP! QTPs

OK, passenger's side went in beautifully. Driver's, not so much. I removed my oil filter and had the header vertical like everyone says to. Still isn't going. Anyone got any ideas other than lifting the motor? Am I doing something wrong?

you have to hold your mouth just right thats all. get someone else to try. i had a friend help me and i tried and tried and tried, then he saw i was getting frustrated and took it to try, it slipped right in. take you a breather, dont get mad or discouraged. you dont have to remove anything else, it'll go i promise.

lol...thanks man. I quit for the night. Tomorrow I'll have a cup of coffee and try to ease it in there again. It does look like it should fit...but I guess that's how it is when you're tired.

how high is the front wheel off the ground, i just installed a set and know what your talking about, passenger side was easy, driver side actually goes in there perfect if you have the right hight on the car, you need to put them in there completely vertical and slip it up then rotate into place, and i mean completely vertical

Going to try it again in a couple of hours...I'm about 6'2" and I have the car high enough that the front bumper is at my chest...It's not gettin much higher without a lift. One question, if my jackstands are placed under the car (about where the door and front fender meet) and I can actually see the car flex under it's weight, could that be what's causing me problems?

lmao...I just thought of something. If I can't get it in there with it on jack stands...I'm going to dig a big *** hole and crawl down there to get that damn thing in. I haven't driven the car in 7 months...anxious

You need a standard pump jack and a a 4x4 on top of the jack under the k frame. Thats how high you need it. Also pull your drain plug. Call us of need any more help.

I just did mine last week. I agree it needs to go higher. I had mine on a lift and the header would fall out if I did not hold it in. I would say you should not have to remove the drain plug, though.

Got em in yesterday after a little "gentle" persuasion with a rubber mallot and the right angle. Thanks for the help guys. Everything looked great last night. Going to go check for any clearance issues now that I have some daylight again.

When me and a friend put his in, we fought with that side for 3hrs, had the car high enough to almost get the header to stand on end, but didnt feel safe with another block of wood. Also had the oil filter out. We ended up breaking down and got out the grinder, and choped some of the flange off of the Kmember, and rounded it off as not to scratch the pretty headers. Sliped right in, without touching a thing.

So far they have been awsome performers, giving us alot more in just the cruising range. Cant wait to get his WS6 on the dyno, and get it tuned.

Hang in there. I helped a buddy install some QTP's last weekend. Yeah, follow all of this advice. You need not jack up the car too awfully high. You'll know you are high enough if you can swing the collector 90* from front to back and not hit the ground while the flanged end is up in the hole next to the steering shaft. It helps to have a buddy up above standing on a stool to help guide you. QTP didn't send my friend any instructions so it was a long process for us but eventually we got the car up high enough then removed all the various things that get in the way like oil filter and drain pan plug. The frusteration part was that there is a small boss off the side of the block that was getting in the way and scraping the header flange. I was determined to get that thing in so we busted out a rubber mallet and went to town. By the way the header scrapes past everything in its path. I doused everything down with some WD-40 to help the process.

Good Luck!

P.S> Whoops! just realized you've finished. Oh well, good advice for the rest of the crowd

Hey guys...just checked for clearance...driver's side has a tube against my steering shaft. Do I have any options other than putting a dent in the tube?

Barry said it's a easy fix in another thread.

Yea when installing my QTP's the pass. side was a piece of cake. The driver side was a little tougher and we ended up unbolting the driver's side motor mount and jacking up the engine just slightly and after some wiggling and pushing it got through.

Like Squealingtires said get it where you can standing the headers up strait up in the air get it slid up in ther then get a block of wood and a rubber mallet on the back of the collector and go to town we looked like a couple pros after we got them in it was kinda funny

Alright, loosened up bolts..attempted to adjust. Still on the steering linkage. I'm going to try again, but if it won't go I'm just going to get out the pry bar and put a dimple in my $700 headers. damn it

This may sound too simple but when I was trying to get my FLP drivers side in after a few hours of @#$+ ing and bloody knuckles, stepped back took a look then just removed the heat shields on the drivers side and it slipped right in. Just that little 1/2 to 1" clearance was all I needed.

I only needed to remove my oil filter and drain plug. There was a point where they were *almost* there and I had to puuusssh through a slight wedge to get them all the way up. Very glad I didn't have to mess with the linkage! K-member on the pass side, now that's a different story...
