i have a camaro with the trex cam and patriot heas and ls6 intake and want to go back on the street. right now it is open headered and i was wondering if anyone had put a collector on the end of there headers and ran a muffler like SLP loudmouth or Borlamouth xr1 and everything ran okay and there was no big back fires or anything. my concern is that with slp loudmouth my brothers ls6 converted trans am used slp loudmouth kit and it spit flame out of the tail pipe when it wanted to. i dont want to catch the car on fire but want the least restrictive exhaust kit to keep the DB level down so that i dont say hey cops pull me over. and the true dual kits are out of the question because i am using S and W race car suspension that was designed for no exhaust therefore there is no room for anything past the trani cross member bracket. please give advice so i can get it done soon.
An exhaust like the TSP Rumbler or the SLP Loudmouth with a different muffler in the I pipe will make a nice setup. A different muffler like a spiral flow will tone it way down while flowing good. That will keep the sound down the most. If you want to get a little more sound then I would use the Borla XR1

Just go back to the stock catback and put a cutout in the I-pipe. You'll have the best of all worlds here.
LOL, I've been following his posts. It seems him and this SSFast99 guy dont see eye to eye. I think theyve raced before, or maybe they both live in the high desert. Some of his threads actually DO MAKE SENSE, but some dont... hahaha.

As a rule the muffler shouldn't contribute to flames from the exhaust, that's going to be more down to the setup of the motor. My TR7 used to spit flames out the back on the down revs, after the cam/carb swap it stopped but the exhaust was the same.
The answer is yes you should be able to add mufflers. Borla make some designed to fit directly onto headers. Magnaflow make race grade mufflers also but they don't directly attach to a header so you'd need some piping. But these all cost a lot. And a small straight thru muffler isn't really going to make that much difference to db levels.
Best bet is to look around at the different muffler makers and see what they offer.
