Default installing Pacesetters race headers

ok I'l be installing pacesetters very soon and there are the race version. i heard this talk about needing O2 sims for the rears and extension for the front. but i not going to run O2's at all I'm just gonna get a tune and turn them off. so if i get the extensions for the front, what do i do with the rears?...cut them off?...tuck the up somewhere or what cause i donno what to do.

thanx everyone

How sure are you about getting a tune and turning off the O2's? Are you referring to an open loop tune? I must admit I am less than informed on that topic, but I am not sure you realize what you are suggesting. Generally speaking you NEED the front pair of O2's.

Yes, you can tuck the rear O2's up somewhere. That is what I did, you will want to have zip ties on hand.

You must have the front o2's. They are what controls the afr on these cars. As for the rears they only tell the pcm that the cats are working. I also tied my plugs up out of the way w/o the sensor attached of course. As far as extensions I just extended mine with the wire that comes with the kit and soldered them in until I could get time to make longer harnesses. Just rember to only cut one wire at a time b/c if I remeber correctly they are all the same colar wire.

AFR from the last post means AIR to FUEL RATIO. Absolutly vital in making EFI engines run right.

The rear O2's are for emmissions ONLY, the front's must be run. You can remove the fronts and run in "open loop" mode, which means the computer has no idea what kind of left over oxygen is left in the exhaust, and it only cares about the incoming air. The front O2's measure how much oxygen and say "Hmm, i bet i can dump a little more fuel if it is pulling this much air in, which means i can make more power!"

You CAN use the supplied stuff to chop up your O2 sensors to extend them but I would recommend buying extensions, because by the time you get to the point that you need to put the O2s in the last thing you are going to feel like doing is splicing a bunch of wires together!

When you get your rear O2s tuned out you will probably have to get your AIR and EGR tuned out as well if you are removing them

no egr here its an 02 but i know the front O2's have to be in i was just wondering bout the rears thats....i just have to live with the cheak engine light for a week or two til i get my TSP mail-order tune....either that or should i just buy the vinci/crane tuner instead? but either way i was just wondering what to do with the rear o2's ...like if i can eitehr cut them off or just tuck'em up and zip tie them somewhere. When i buy extensions does it matter if its "flat" or "Square" cause thats what speed inc. says to specifiy

For the rears, you can either do O2 sims, and zip tie the excess wire out of the way, or you can have it tuned so that no SES light is lit for no rear O2s (it's up to you) for buying extensions, you have to look at the connector for the fronts, and see if it's "flat", or "square"
As for the hand held, I don't think they can tune out the SES light (I may be wrong there, call them and ask would be the best way) You might want to consider investing in the software to tune it yourself, it's not that difficult, and there is a pretty good section @ tech, on how to tune your car

Use Vette 02's for your fronts. They have a longer harness and don't require extensions, splicing, or any other bs. Just unplug the rear O2's and tie them up.
