Default Quietest Muffler for TDs

What is the quietest muffler for a dumped TD setup? How much clearance is there under the car afterward?

Look for Magnaflow mufflers that will give you the best clearance. From what I've seen, their mufflers are generally the quietest on duals.

How loud are dynomax bullet mufflers? Is there a lot more clearance with 2.5" TD than a 3" y pipe?

I have Flo-Pro Twisters on my 2.5" setup. They are very tame until you stomp on it, then they scream. The sound is very good, IMO. The interior noise is very low with them as well. I never measured how much ground clearance I have with the 2.5" pipes, but it isn't much. I'm lowered with DMS springs, though, so the front of the car is pretty much slammed. One of these days, when I can get the money together, I will redo my suspension and raise it up a little, maybe Hotchkis. But it will be nice to get more ground clearance.

See, i dont plan on lowering mine, and my 3" system is still way low. I just adjusted my y and now it hits the floor...pain in the ***. Oh well, at least it isnt hitting speed bumps in 3 places anymore.
So its not loud inside just when you're cruizin? Intersting. Who made your kit? I just figured that any dumped system would resonate like hell ALL the time. I travel a whole lot on the interstate, and the cops here are pretty bad. Could you send me a picture of your set up and how the pipes are turned down.
I read where the TSP TD resonates VERY bad until you cut the 90* dumps to 45* dumps.

I bought my setup from another member. I'm pretty sure he bought the bends and had it welded up together. I'll try and take pics and e-mail them to you tomorrow. There really isn't much interior noise at all. One key to keeping the interior resonance down is to have the turn downs angled outwards at a 45. You'll see in the pics. If they point straight down or straight out to the side, supposedly that is when the resonance gets really bad. I think bullets are bad about causing the noise also. Ask Lane about his opinion. I'm pretty sure he will suggest Twisters as well. Moroso makes them also; called Spiral Flow.

Thanks, im interested to see how it looks. So 45* down is how yours are cut? or is it 45 to the side?

45* angled out to the tires, I guess is how I'd describe it. I think the 45* refers to the angle they point to, not how the dumps are cut.
EDIT: We need to get Lane in on this thread.

Yeah, but the XR1 is HUGE! If you came accross a dime in the road you would have to drive around it. Mine scrapes and its right in front of the axle.

You do realise Borla XR1 is NOT an individual muffler but an entire series of components offered by Borla.

The smallest they offer has a 5" diameter: http://www.borla.com/products/product_multi_detail.aspx?cat=5&type=72&desc=XR-1%26reg%3b+Racing+Exhaust|XR-1%26reg%3b+Sportsman+Racing+Mufflers

Magnaflow may be another consideration as they offer mufflers which are only 4" in diamter, these are 3" inlet/outlet so plenty for an Fbody.

Ok, well my individual XR-1 Muffler is huge and wont clear much of anything, let alone speed bumps. like you said the smallest one is 5". It almost hits the driveshaft. Id like to see how riddled two xr1 mufflers would be after riding thru a parking lot in a dumped true dual setup on an f body. There may be more room on a mustang, but after my 3" y pipe experience i dont see how the tires would even touch the ground with those monsters in the center of the car. They are quiet though!

Here are some pics of my setup. It is over the axle and utilizes Magnaflow 4" round body's. I would call the sound level quiet for a true dual setup. It is as loud as any old school muscle that has true duals with a free flowing muffler, but not glasspack loud. LOL

Pics sent.
Nice setup, DWill. You look like you have more clearance than I do, but I guess that's what you'd expect when you pay $40 to have them hung.

I've got the same setup as you DW. It is fairly mellow at idle but I would like it a little quieter. I'm getting old I guess. I've read that the Magnaflow 6" rounds would fit in the space we have the 4" mufflers. It looks like it would be awful close though. One thing I noticed is you have yours fully welded from the X back. What are you going to do if you have to drop the exhaust? My idiot exhaust guy put clamps right after the X rather than at the axle. I will be getting that fixed soon.
