A/C system weak links ?
A/C system weak links ? For the first time this year I had to use A/C and found it to be not cool ! I am going to check system friday for psi and possible add more ! What is the history on this system , and common failures ?

The compressors like to destroy themselves, at least mine did. The orifice tube (by the firewall, aka the expansion valve) was so jam packed with aluminum, that the pressures were reading perfect, but i was getting no cooling. Turned out it was jam packed enough to not flow, and the compressor was too fucked up to cause the normal too HIGH pressures on the high side and too LOW pressures on the low side associated with a stopped up orifice.
Took us a while to figure it out, we knew the compressor was fried, but we kept having doubts due to the perfect pressure readings.
You may have a leak and the low pressure switch is not letting it kick on due to not having enough freon in the system. Check and see if the clutch on the compressor kicks in when you turn it on or not. If you have plenty of freon in the system but it still won't kick on, then you may have a bad clutch. If it does kick on, and you have freon, then the compressor is fried.
BTW - my compressor sounded like it threw a rod when it went out!

The number 1 killer of ac systems is it not being used for long periods of times. The oil in the freon does not get to circulate, parts deteriate faster. Run your ac for about 10 minutes every couple of weeks and it will last ALOT longer.
