Default Open Header Question

So maybe you've heard I'm having a bad year? My X-mas presents to myself is still sitting in my room!

Anyway, I am still trying to get my true dual exhaust done....I am needing to have a different shop put my headers on and then a few days to a week later I will have my exhaust shop finish up the work and complete my duals. I cannot be without my car and I will be driving it between installs. My question this time is if I run open headers for a few days I'm assuming everything will be ok except maybe my o2's? I could careless about how loud it will be because I just want my duals done!

I have searched (a lot) and found no specific answer. TIA!

After i installed my Pacesetter's i ran around with open headers for about a week and nothing was wrong except the pissed off neighbors!!! People say you can easily fry your o2 sensors doing this because of too much "fresh" air getting to them, but it really is a risk you have to decided for yourself some poeple havn't had any problems and some have.

You should be fine. You can clamp on 12-18" of straight scrap pipe to each collector for no worries at all.

open headers is very loud and extremely annoying to me,the sound inside the vehicle is terrible.but only thing it will hurt is as allready stated the o2s so you will be o.k.

If you don't run extensions like Blur said, pull your O2s until your duals are finished.

Sounds badass to me. Just watch the cops, like previously stated, bet they ride your *** and won't leave ya alone. Just stay off the gas while your around them, it'll help a little.

I was thinking of putting some extention tubing on but don't want to weld and reweld the collector of my headers.

If I pull the o2's the car will run like crap, but that way they won't foul. Anything else bad that can happen by running "open loop" (I think that's the term)

Sorry for the n00b questions, I am usually pretty good at this stuff, I am more or less just making sure my logic is correct.

Thanx again!

Nah, it'll run fine in open loop and you'll save your O2s. I ran for many miles that way with no problems at all. O2s are $$$!

You COULD take your old rear O2's and use them as the fronts untill you get the duals put on. I think they might be interchangable considering people run 'vette rear O2's in the front slots on our cars.

As long as you still have a stock cam, I'd disconnect your O2 sensors until you get the dual exhaust fabricated/installed. Running open headers with the sensors still hooked up can/will screw with your fueling where as running with out them uses the default fueling in the PCM (kind of like a carburated motor). Again, as long as the car is relatively stock and you're not going out running it ragged, you will be ok without the sensors hooked up.
