Pinning Damper to Crankshaft
I had a cam change done in my C5 about a year ago and "apparently" the crank bolt wasn't torqued quite tight enough. I was on a dyno about a month ago, doing a run, when a "puff of smoke" came out of the engine and we shut down. After inspection, we found the bolt backed out and the crank had eased off about 1/4". It threw the belts and dumped oil on the floor. I have now got to go back in and spend time and money on a new balancer, gaskets, seals and fluids, and oh...I WILL pin the crank this time!! (The C5 has to have the steering rack removed)
Compare that to the fact that I borrowed a pinning tool from a forum member ($10 shipping both ways) and a steel pin cost $1.10. It takes about 20min from start to finish to do.
Like I said..cheap insurance
