Default LS6 dual or single exhaust?

My buddy's selling me the LS6 out of his RX7 (not enough HP for him!!) and he has a very large single exhaust on it. I'm putting the LS6 into my Mercedes and just curious if I should use a dual exhaust with "H" or "X" crossover pipe or will a "y" pipe and a large (~3") pipe going back give me similar HP readings? This is, obviously, not going to be a drag racer, but it will occasionally spend some time on a track so absolute maximum HP is not necessary.

I'm thinking that shorty headers, downtubes back to a "y", then a large single cat to a large muffler would be the easiest thing to install but not constrict the exhaust very much.

So, whaddya think??

Bump - any thoughts on this? Do a dual exhaust or will a large single lose me too much HP?

duals with a crossover is the prefered setup, but on a milder setup you're only leaving 10 or so HP on on the table going with a y pipe configuration. So your plan should be ok, use longtubes if you have the opportunity.

Wish I could use long tubes but the steering gear box on the Benz is EXACTLY where the exhaust needs to come down. The frame cross member under the engine is at the back of the engine (using a GTO front sump oil pan), so it looks like straight down and under the cross member.

I was at Muscle Motorsports in the Charlotte area yesterday and they have some flattened exhaust pipe pieces that look like they'd be great to go under that crossmember.

Thanks for the info - if I can get duals under there, then duals it shall be but it's nice to know that I won't be loosing much with the Y pipe either. Choices, choices - it's nice to have choices!!
