Default Exhaust for my bird?

I am looking for an exhaust to get when I get the money, but im not sure which one is the best? I've been looking at the MagnaFlow it seems to sounds good and isn't outragously priced. What do you have on your trans am and what do you think would be the best bang for the buck? I want my car to have that nice roar on the outside.

Are you still gonna run the stock y-pipe? A cutouts always nice(and is best bang for the buck IMHO) or a cutout along w/ a catback. I think a Hooker or SLP loudmouth(but replace the slp resonator w/ a sprialflo or bullet muffler) will sound good w/ bang for the buck quality. Personally Im about to go back to a dual cutout 3in ory/borla combo on my 98 TA over the x-pipe i have now since i have a borla layin around that used to be on my SS. I like the x-pipe but im giving it to my bro-in-law to put on his 86 monte SS for his b-day present

i gottta ask: alot of people say"buy loudmouth but replace the resonator" whats the point in buying loudmouth if your not even going to use the part your buying the system for? the only other parts that come with loudmouth are the pipes, which i cant understand why youd pay slp 300$ for pipes....?

Basically, SLP Loudmouth is a stainless-steel cat-back exhaust system; meaning, the system will replace everything from the y-pipe all the way to the back of the car. Now, loudmouth does not use a muffler, instead it uses a 'resonator' that is placed before the wheel axle and 'refracts' the sound pulses to make the tone of the exhaust sound quite tities. Anyways, the system is about 315$ from SLP and is definatly a worthy upgrade on any f-body. Oh yeah, the system is offered with two styles of exhaust tips, the 3.5inch slash cut [ O O ] and the 2.5inch dual dual. [ oo oo ]

Theres a ton of web sites that have install walkthroughs, as loudmouth is a do it yourself operation. I've installed one on an LT1 vehicle[93-97 v8 f-body] and it was a cakewalk. I can't possibly imagine it being more difficult on a LS1[98-02 v8 f-body]

I can tell you that I've heard magnaflow and Loudmouth and if you want smooth bassy exhaust that isnt quite loud, magnaflow is your choice. However, if your looking for loud, 'i can hear you a mile away' exhaust, loudmouth is the way to go. Keep in mind, Magnaflow is also a cat back system, but uses a standard muffler. Both systems are stainless steel.

--Edit-- A cut-out is a device that essentially, 'dumps' the exhaust wherever you put it. The dump can be closed so that you can run your exhaust all the way back through your exhaust system or it can be opened so that you essentially are running your exhaust with no system. I'll dig for a pic so you'll understnad better. Cut-Outs are sweet cause they are cheap and will make your car LOUD. They can be welded in wherever you want, most people put them in right after the cats, but before the mufflers/resonator.

Thanks for explaining that for me. I am definitly not looking to buy the loudmouth then if it sounds as you say it does thats just not for me. So magnaflow sounds good? Magnaflow is more expensive then SLP if im not mistakened right? Which exhaust system would you suggest out of all of them?

Yeah, magnaflow definatly sounds very nice and very noticable. I'm sure you can find a couple soundclips on this site. I'll try to dig up some of them too.

If i was you, i would get the magnaflow system and put a cut-out right before it. This way, you can have a very nice sounding exhaust and when you want to run the track, or be obnoxious, you can pop open that cutout and let her rip!

If you want to find out what different exhaust systems sound like, go visit www.LS1sounds.com
They have videos and sound clips of most every exhaust available for an f body
This works best if you have decent speakers for your PC, otherwise they all start to sound alike
