Patman I think you're right, I might have the weight of water mixed up with gasoline.

Water weighs 8.33 lbs. per gallon. JP4 jet fuel weighs 6.4 lbs. per gallon. Gasoline is close to jet fuel in weight. Jimmy

This is an excellent gasoline thread!

Another question...

If you have oil getting burned, it reduces your octane, why?

How old does gas have to be before it looses octane?

John, I think some brands of gas lose their octane a lot quicker than others. I know from my experiences, and a few others on the net too, Sunoco 94 seems to lose octane very fast, probably a point a week at first. I know that if I had gas that was two weeks old in my 98 Formula, it would ping, but with a fresh fillup it would not, and it would run fine for at least a full week without a hint of detonation at all.

Patman was correct, gasoline weighs in the 6.1-6.2 lb per gallon range <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Why does motor oil reduce octane?
