Default Walbro In-Tank Install

I am in the procees of replacing my stock fuel pump/module with a Walbro 255L in my '99 Formula. I have yet to find any kind of a write-up on the web for our cars.

The factory module has a "jet pump" in the bottom to help fill the module. The pump is powered by a hose coming off of the factory pump. The Walbro does not have a fitting to attach the jet pump hose to. I understand the Incon kits include the same Walbro pump and did not use the jet pump. My question is, do you remove the jet pump from the module completely, or will fuel still be able to enter the bucket with it in place?

I imagine I could cut some holes in the sides of the bucket to allow fuel in. The car is used primarily for drag racing and I would like to run as little fuel as possible without worrying about starving the pump. What have you guys been doing?

Thanks,
Mike

I helped my buddy install a Walbro in his 400+ rwhp daily driven LT1. What we ended up doing was scraping the whole plastic mini-tank setup and the extra hoses, and he just attached the pump to the metal bracket using some sort of aircraft grade "chicken wire". That's been about a year ago, he has had no problems, and now he's using a supercharger too. So if you don't mind a little ghetto-rigging then you can go without the stock pump housing. Just keep it above 1/4tank to be safe.

Although maybe none of this will apply if the LS1 uses a different fuel pump setup/housing/etc, I'm not sure. Never had the (mis)fortune of having to swap an LS1 pump!

Good luck,
Drew

I really dont know how the fuel pump is setup in LS1 cars, but it might be time for me to upgrade my pump I will price some out and if I end up doing it I will be sure to do a write up on it.

I drilled several large holes at the bottom of the "bucket" to allow fuel to get in

Brian,
Thanks for the reply. Have you had any problems running the pump dry when you are low on fuel?

don't let it go below an ~1/8 tank... after that it can suck air on quick turns.
