Cut out sounding different, and rattling Alright, i have a '98 formula, my friend has a '97 formula. We both have cut-outs in the same place, and stock exhaust otherwise. I was driving his car the other day, and noticed his car had a lower exhaust note than mine, is the sound difference due to the LS1 vs. LT1? Also, when i'm at about 2800rpm and i take my foot off the gas, then push the gas after a second or 2, there is a little pop sound (not everytime i do it, but a lot, plus it happens with it hot or cold).
Next, after getting the cut-out i started hearing a rattlling when the engine was winding down, or when staying constant at around 1900rpm. I put the car on ramps and had someone rev it, i was looking around all the pipes and none move or rattle. The rattle sound is coming out of the actual pipe. What could it be? I plan on taking it back to the place that did the cut-out and having them look, but i wanna know ahead of time what it could be.
Again, anyone who could help me with the sound difference from LT1 to LS1 i'd appreciate it, i actually love the sound of his car a lot more (not to mention it doesn't do that popping thing).

Remember, you used to go thru a muffler that masked all of that...
I would say, yes, there would be an inherent difference in the tone between an LT1 and LS1..

I put a cutout on the 02 a few weeks ago..
It pops too..not as much..I suspect its because the exhaust is more restricted due to the cats being new.. only 900 miles on the 02..30K on the 98's cats..
Rattling? Well..you have a ton more volume! Turn your home stereo up and watch stuff rattle next to the speakers... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Cut out sounding different, and rattling I'm not talking about internal rattling, b/c i know thats normal for the vibrations (not to mention i have a new system in, and my sub rattles a lot of stuff too). I am talking about a rattle that sounds like a metal slapping against metal, and the sound is coming out of the cut-out. Like i said, i can't see any of the pipes actually moving or in contact with anything that would cause that sound. I am thinking it might be something to do with the cats, but i need some enlightenment.

Re: Cut out sounding different, and rattling On deacceleration cutouts are known for making a very fast "ratling" noise. I don't know what it is, but i'm betting what your are describing is normal.
