The throttle plate is the plate inside the throttle body that is opened when you press down on the gas pedal. However, as the plate is opened by the pedal, it opens and lets fresh air inside the engine. The more air that goes in the engine, generally, the more power and MPH it will make. I worked on mine this weekend and found out it would not opened completely and I believe it is costing me ET at the track. I have been trying to find out about this from someone on this forum and for some reason, nobody has helped me. But I will not giveup and I will find out. I hope this clarifies what the plate is, if it doesn't--ask another question and I will try. Kent.

Kent I beleive that there is a procedure of grinding the Throttle Stop. There is a throttle stop made onto the throttle body that will not let the throttle be opened 100% in some cases. I don't think that this is a problem on all cars. Maybe we can get more people in here and maybe they will know a little more about this than I do.

The Guy in My 99TA--Thanks for the reply. I install a port and polished Mark Shanner S2 throttle body, and when we checked the plate, we notice it only opened about 75 to 80 percent of the way with the new one. Then we reinstalled the stock throttle body, and notice it did the same thing. It appeared the throttle cable was stretched. This will sound crude, but we placed the throttle cable inside a rubber hose to take some the slack out where it attaches on the wheel and then we tightened up cable on cable adjustment. After we got through, we went for a test drive and it appears the car is faster and the car is much more responsive when the pedal is press down. I am wandering in the past when I was at the track and the plate was not opened completely, did it cost me some ET. An answer to this question and any other advice on what we did, would be appreciated.

Officer---- I think what you are thinking of is for LT1s..... There is a plate that bolts to the top of the LT1 throttle body. I don't think it has a function but to dress up the engine a bit. I don't think that will be useful in our case! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
