Default Wrong Cam on Throttle Body?

I just put in a new ls6 intake on my 2000 ss camaro. I got the intake off ebay and it had a ported throttle body attached to it. It was all good, except I just notice (after installing) that my old throttle body had a different cam... which I think I read must be the quicker opening cam because the new throttle body won't open all the way up now.

What is the solution to this?

Do I have to get a throttle body with a matching cam?

or can I just tighten the cable linkage a bit so that it opens all the way up? If that is the answer, how do I do that?

Thanks, Will

Have you seen the " bump stop mod? " Check it out if not. Other than that you should be O.K.

Your ported TB is a 98-99. Just take the shaft out of your 00 TB and put it in the ported one.

To adjust the cable grab it @ the coupling of the two pieces. Pull up on the lock, seperate the two pieces by pulling them apart. Watch the throttle for no slack and reclip the coupling. while holding the pieces in place. It may take you a couple of trys but really pretty easy.

He's right, just take the shaft out of your throttle body and use it on the ported one. '98-'99 throttle bodies use a larger cam for quicker throttle response than the '00-'02 throttle bodies. You can also adjust the slack in the cable if you have TCS like 227Hawk suggested, but if you don't have TCS, you don't have that clip to adjust the slack so you'll have to use your old shaft.

Not sure if I have TCS... is that traction control? Where are the two pieces or the clip to adjust the slack? Is that the clip that slides into the bracket mounted on the intake?

How do I take the shaft out? i gave it a quick glance tonight, but no bolts or other obvious signs jumped out at me. iAre the bolts, etc. underneath the TPS sensor?

Thanks for all the info guys.

remove the whole TB from the car. Remove the TPS sensor. Remove the 2 screws going through the plate holding it to the shaft. Remove the plate. Tap the shaft out of the housing. The cam and shaft are all one piece. Use a little loctite on the shaft screws when reassembling.
