Default difference in airlids

can someone tell me what the difference is with all the airlids? i.e. SLP, MTI, Fast Toys, G2, etc. etc. they all state that there's a possible increase anywhere from 10-20 horses. any recommendations?

thanks,

hey bluedemon,

where is roxlett tx by? i'm originally from tx and moving back there at the beginning of august when i get outta the service. back the lids, if they're all the same, SLP would be the way to go, cause all the rest cost $100 +

All of the lids perform nearly identical. Go for the one you like the best.

I have had only one lid, but I'll give you my opinion on it. I just recently got a black MTI lid through a GP. I am happy with the results however the fit is terrible and it's fabricated poorly in my opinion. I have nothing to reference it to, but I am a chemical engineer and I have seen lots of fabricated plastics.

I don't mean to flame MTI, but this is my opinion. That's not to say I wouldn't purchase an MTI product again, just not an lid.

BTW...it took almost 3 weeks to receive it when I was told it would take 5 business days.

I’ve been happy with my Whisper lid for going on three years now. It’s fit great on two different LS1s I’ve owned, and it’s never cracked. Looks like new still...

I went with the SLP lid. It was one of the less expensive ones. I also figure if I have to take the car to the dealer and they ask about the lid I can say its the same as the ones SLP makes for the SS

Go with what you think looks the best or the cheapest. Fitment may be a problem but if you prefer looks go for that but if your on a budget you know what to do.

I bought mine from RK $port in Oceanside - $174, including tax, but I'm funny about that - if I'm paying NOW, I want the part NOW - I've had too many bad dealings with speed shops that promise anything and deliver whenever or not at all...

As far as Fitment goes, well, I had to bake the lid in the oven at 350 degrees to get it to fit (no joke)...

The calibrated butt dyno didn't register any improvement - I already had the FRA, K&N filter and exhaust cutout, but since the Firehawks squeal if I dump the clutch at 2200 RPM anyway, it's hard to tell!

now all I need is the !CAGS, Pro 5.0 and some decent tires and back to the track!

Damn, you know I asked the same question along with header inquiries DAYS ago to no avail. Perhaps I shoulda just asked 'Hey I don't wanna get it in the @ss when I buy a new air setup...any ideas?' I personally think I may go with Volant though from the feedback I have heard. Apparently one of our brothers here on the site got 24 hp from his, I don't know of the mods he had along with that though. Back to header question real quick, are LTs legal in Cali?

The Direct Flo lid by LS1 Motorsports is the best by a small margin. It is a lot more durable that some of the others like the clear lid from MTI. That thing will crack easy and fits like crap.

I can't give you a comparison because I've only had 1, but I have a whisper lid and BONE stock with just a lid on my 99TA it did 318RWHP & 333RWTQ. Not as cool looking as the clear one but it serves its purpose.

Ive had the Whisper for three years with no problems, Made 10 rwhp on the dyno. Tried my buddys MTI lid at the track one night in back to back passes against my whisper, and saw no difference. Close your eyes and pick one!

The comparison did not include the volant system. The stock lid actually has a higher intake flow than all the others, but it has the lowest outward flow of all. I couldn't find the test again, sorry guys.

I just put the SLP lid, MAF sensor w/o screen and smooth bellows in today... It only took an hour and I can really notice the difference. Definitly worth the $$$...

There was a comparison on www.ls1info.com The comparison was done on a flow bench and the direct flow lid came out on top. It wasn't by much but they are all about the same. I'm going to go with this lid personally.

Do we consider the Volant as a lid? I will check LS1 comparison, thanks.
