Bad idea?
So I'm wondering if it would be safe just to fold a small cotton cloth and put it inbetween the Y-pipe and the crossmember then like secure it with just some duck tape across the underside of the crossmember. I wouldn't think the heat from the Y-pipe would cause any problems with a cotton cloth but I figure I better make sure. Thx.

HEAT + Cloth = Smoke (at least) And you know the saying, where there's smoke, there's (possible) fire.. Willing too take a chance on a band aid approach, not a fix. Try something better. Hate to see your car go up un smoke man.

It won't melt the heater hose. My pipes were banging so I took a 6" long piece and stuffed it between the pipe and the floor board and the banging went away. You can do the same thing between the pipes and the cross member to keep the pipe off the brace.
