Forget the mufflers!!! ok if i were to do true duals before the axle but didn't wana run mufflers i no if would be loud! but what if i put Cats in??? and no mufflers!! it would sounds good and be legal em i right??? just gota make sure there small cats for ground clearence. I tryed this on my X 1985 Z28 5 litre.. just took the pipe off after the cat like a cheap cut out.. it sounded better then any flowmaster but was a little louder to.. but thats how i like my cars.. but on LS1 it wouldn't be much louder right? Thanx for any help.

Re: Forget the mufflers!!! well, i run the cutout open all the time and still have cats. sounds pretty good imo. not too loud but what about just 2 bullets in the y pipe and a single out the back w/o a muffler? just a thought.

Duals with bullets and not cats will be loud.
I run a 422ci, but I have 3" duals, oval pipe, 2.5" balance tube 18" from the collectors, going into Borla XR1 sportsman muffers (12") into dumps at the axle.
It's loud but not sick loud like my bullet mufflers were.

Re: Forget the mufflers!!! Im running Hooker shorties, with cats, and no muffler, but pipes still exit in the same place.. Basically just eliminated the muffler.. Sounds absolutely awesome at WOT.. idle is quiet... which is perfect when you pass cops, just push in the clutch, and they would never know. I love my exhaust.. it used to pop on decel before the headers, but now its not bad at all...

Re: Forget the mufflers!!! I am running a orp with no muffler myself and it is godawfully loud. I do get some nasty looks from some older people but just about all car nuts give me the thumbs up. When emisions testing comes I plan on getting a y pipe with cats but I don't plan on passing anyway. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Forget the mufflers!!! I can almost assure you 100% you wont pass an emissions test with the cat that far back. Its that reason that the SLP LT's are not smog legal, because the cats are not in the stock location. Me being a smog tech. i know this very well. Also, the cat being that far back, the brick inside wouldnt get hot enough to convert all those emissions, and you'd fail on tailpipe anyway. But you would fail a visual first. Best to keep the cats in the stock y-pipe.. I like my setup.. sounds loud as hell. Hooker Shorties, stock cats in y-pipe, no muffler... I checks my emmisions the other day on the machine, and im doin awesome.. hard to beleive with the tuning, and intake and exhaust mods...
Re: Forget the mufflers!!! It will be extremely loud with the bullets, but might be just right with cats & bullets. If you want louder, then put cutouts on there, so you can have it loud when you want, & not when you dont.. Good luck.

Thanx RTcamaroSS veery good points there.. so u got stock cats on your headers and no muffler? must sounds good! but what if i wana run long tubes.. which i do!.. how would i get the cats on there?? and do u think they'll hit the ground on speed bumps.. i em lowered a bit to.. so i might just get screwed either way

But ya i think the idea of poping off my cat back would be a good test. Right now i don't have headers.. but thats why im doing this post so when i get headers i'll have a set up ready.
Heres my idea! i thought of it yesterday.. tell me what u think >>>>> hooker headers into ORY back to my borla adjustable, then on the borla i'll cut out the muffler and put a cat there!! then when emissions comes i put the full block off plate so i don't pollute but when im outa there i run open plate again and its loud ***!

Re: Forget the mufflers!!! The reason why i want the cat back there is because i heard its kinda hard to put a cat in the Y pipe properly.. and ground clearence problems to. this is just my idea..

Well i took my cats out today.. cost me $5 for the slurpees i baught the guys! haha it sounds awsome.. right now i have the closed plate in the borla.. so i can just imagine how loud and good it would sounds with it out.. gona try that soon! now i no what everyone means about the rasp.. i have very little at just under 2000RPM.. only on back pressure tho.. when i let off the gas.. but i don't think i'll need headers for a while now.. well i would for more power.. but im satisfied with the sound for now.
