Default Newbie with a ?

I just installed the SLP LT headers and I think I lost HP. What can I do to get it back? My mods are in my sig. I was thinking a Cam or a CAI but the Cam is major $$$ and I cant decide on a CAI unit.

The extra noise may be confusing any gains you did get. However, some folks have noticed that they run rich after header installs.

My advice would be to dyno the car and get an Atap reading to be sure, If you are not seeing any gains a MAFT may be needed.

I agree. These pcm's are pretty good at adapting, but custom tuning will probably eke out more gains. Sometimes a pcm reset coupled with some mileage will help-not sure why that is-but maybe when the parameters start from scratch the pcm can adapt better.
Two things you need to stay on top of what the engine is doing: you need a scanner (Autotap, etc), and a Helms manual to help you deal with any codes the pcm posts.

I got mine from NAPA with a cross reference part number of 392-3028 for $300, it may not be as handy as an Autotap but it's a lot easier to use.

The Helms service manuals are worth having, you can get the three piece set from www.phoenixpontiacbuickgmc.com/ .

A lot of mods (especially exhaust) will wipe out your low end, but increase your peak horsepower.

If you are convinced it lost HP over the entire range, you may be running pig rich now, which will kill your horsepower. Get a Mass Air Flow Translator from one of the listed sponsers. You will be able to lean out your setup a little bit with one of these and gain some HP back.

They sell Autotap.

As for the Helms manual, I personally haven't purchased one because most of the Autotap codes you will see somebody on here has had the same problem. You can usually get plenty of information on the code by simply searching this site (gotta love the SEARCH feature).
