Default Bolt-Ons

What different type of bolt-ons can you get and what will they do for you. I've heard of some for the exhaust and oil pump and so on. Thanks guys.

There are oodles of goodies you can bolt on, for the engine or for handling. I would suggest you start by investing in Autotap and LS1-edit. Doing the mods will require your tuning the engine in, otherwise the mod will do little or even may damage the engine by running too lean.
You will need a laptop in order to run the both Autotap and LS1-edit, or you need a friend who has these items and can log data and make changes. If you do not go the LS1-edit route (it is pricey), you can go the MAFT (Mass Air Flow Translator) to tune the car in at cruise and WOT (wide open throttle). The MAFT is less expensive, but you do not have the capabilities that the LS1-edit gives you to modify and change just about anything and everything.
After that... you are ready to begin modifying.. .you can start with a Air Lid for the air cleaner, then go on to a ported Mass Air Flow, An LS-6 Manifold, Headers, Cat Back Exhaust, Low Restriction cats or Off Road Exhaust, gear changes, 160 degree thermostat change, cam shaft, springs, roller rockers with a higher ratio, cold air and ram air setups. Good luck... hope this helps... and have fun... Finding the goodies is almost as fun as installing and doing the mods. Another site you can look at is LS1.com which lists some free mods you can make to the car, and LS1 Camaro-Firebird..

If you want simple, inexpensive, HP here's what I found:

2.5" Y-pipe with "Zed-Style" cutout. Stays smog legal, sounds mean, loses no torque, picks up 10-15hp (mine 18), costs $150.

Airlid. 10 min install, 5-15hp (mine 3.5), $125.

Pulley. 1hr install, 4hp, keeps P/S pump from overflowing. $150.

AVOID:

MAF Changes. Never seen an MAF change make a 2000+ stock car dyno higher yet. Have seen -20hp.

Performance Fuel/Spark Re-Programming. For stock 2000+ engines, little can be gained.

To Make your Car Quicker:

#1 - Tires and wheels. Lightweight, good traction, will drop .5 seconds or more.

#2 - Weight Reduction.

Most people will not need LS1 edit at bolt-on level. I would do all the bolt-ons first, then get Edit if you want to make PCM changes. Many heads/cam cars even need little tuning. Some H/C cars I've seen have only gained 5rwhp from tuning. All depends on your setup and your car.

Autotap, however, is always good to have at any mod level, or even stock. It’s a tool to help you when modding or diagnosing problems.

LS1 Edit is either $500 or $550 and I think I paid about $250 for my Atap over a year ago. Of course, you will need a laptop that can meet the requirements to run these programs. Check some of our site sponsers for info on A-tap, and if you want to learn more about LS1 Edit (even though I REALLY don’t think you need it yet at your mod level), go to www.carputing.com
