Question New Cut-Out Idea, Would it Work?

So heres my idea: On the new ZO6 they have a some sort of sensor that mesures backpressure in the exhaust system, when it gets to a certain level a cutout opens, bypasing the muffler. This sounds really cool to me, so I was thinking how could I rig something like that up?

My best idea would be to have something like a TB on the cuttout, atached to the throttle cable. So when your driveing around normaly spring tension keeps the valve closed, but when you step on the gas (say 75%) it opens the valve just like your TB.

I just think it would be really cool to have a quiet exhaust when driveing around town but have it really loud when you floor it (without the pain of opeing and closeing a normal QTEC) So what do ya'll think?

I've thought of doing that too, but finding a spring/blade combo that has no motion before X PSI of exhaust pressure, and then opens up fully once that threshold is reached would be very hard. Almost by definition most springs have a force that varies linearly with displacement (Hooke's law).

There was some talk about ZO6 style cutouts in the QTP electric controller thread and a few people said that an RC motor would probably be the way to do. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do. You would build a normal style electric cutout using an RC motor instead of a slow electric one, then power it from the charging system. You could then hook up a WOT switch like people use on Nitrous systems to control the flow of electricity to the motor. The only problem would be getting the motor to stop when the blade is fully opened (another microswitch on the cutout blade maybe?).

I'm sure something like that could be designed by a professional, an engineer of somesort with just using the spring until a certain amount of force is applied on it. Of course it wouldn't be open/close, it would gradually open depending on the force applied.
Maybe some sort of latch to hold the valve closed, then when the latch hits a certain amount of force it will unhook the vavle letting it run wide open. Then when you let off the gas the latch will close and have a spring to close the valve, kind of complicated but then it would be full open/close. And no hassle to the driver besides playing with the gas pedal.

I'm pretty sure that the new z06 "cutout" system is vaccuum operated. It's been talked about before, but I'm sure the search function doesn't go back that far yet.

Next month we are releasing our electric cutout contoller. Its a smart button. It knows displays in LED where the butterfly plate is and has an option trigger wire. WHen the trigger wire is grounded the butterfly will open. So you can set it to RPM, N20, WOT, Boost or what ever you like. Here is a post we made about it.

The problem people have with that though is that your motors take several seconds to open. That's way to slow to be used in the way most people want to.
