Default $#&*@%& Headers!!!Please Help

Somebody please tell me what the secret voodoo trick is to get the passenger side header (Mac) in place. I've been at it for a little while now with no luck just scraped knuckles, pissed off, and scratched the **** out of the header. I quit for the night. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

its been over a year since i installed my macs but if i remember right i pulled the valve covers and coil packs off both sides and the headers slide in from the top pretty easy. i think i tried from the bottom but the engine block has a square tab sticking out thats in the way. hope that helps

If you can get under the car safely, have a buddy pry the tranny over with a piece of 2x4 by using the tunnel for leverage. We were able to move the engine enough to finally sneak the header through (after enough cussing to shock a truck driver). That's how we got the SLP LTs into mine.

Thanks for the replies. I've got the coil packs off but not the valve covers. I think I'm gonna yank them tomorrow and see how it goes from the top side.

Is that little block not the dumbest ever? I would've been working on the drivers side by now if it weren't for that thing. Thanks again guys,

Jay

With coils and both valve covers off they will go in easy from the top.

The driver's side will be a piece of cake if you have not already done that. I put in the SLP's and had a hard time with the pass side. I just shoved the s**t out of the tranny and pushed the header up and in from the bottom. I put duct tape on the mating surfaces of the headers inorder to prevent/minimize scratches. Take lots of brakes and try not to throw anything!! You'll love it when you're done. Especially since you did it yourself.

I just put hooker LT's in my '98 formula M6. Well, on the passenger side i just had the coil packs off (as well as the obligatory plugs, wires, AIR, EGR, ect). Getting the headers just takes wiggling around, i hung both sides by myself basically.

As for the driverside, you don't need to pull your valve covers. Take out the steering linkage (just 2 bolts), and grind down the casting block on the block (the square thing in the way on the block) a little. Grinding that little block down took 10 minutes TOPS with a dremel, and i didn't even take that much off of it, but afterwards the headers sliped right in.

I think dropping the headers in from the top requires more work as you are going to have to do all the disassembly on the engine, just wiggling the headers around usually works fine.

Just the opposite for me. I got the drivers side to go in from the top fairly easy. Now the passenger side does not want to cooperate. I've got everything off but it still says no. I'm having clearance problems with the little block on the block (sounds funny). I think I need to grunt different or something. I'm just gonna scream real loud and I think that will do it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
