Default Holley air filter, re-oiling?

I put the Holley my LS-1 on a month ago. Now it's time to clean and re-oil. I'm thinking pretty much like the K&N.

The cleaning part was OK, but it comes time to re-oil and I pull the bottle out of the kit and it's a squeeze bottle, not a spray and it also very thick.

I read the directions and nothing is said other then cover the white spots. I thinking get an even coat and over oiling is going to be a problem. Anyone else has this problem? Did I get the wrong kit or oil in that kit? Just dumping oil on the filter dosn't seem right.

I have the same kit and I had to re-oil my filter like 3 or 4 times. I made sure I did it on a weekend so I could use the wife's car. I plan on buying a Fram to throw in there while I re-oil my Holley. I do love the Holley, made very well.

1st off you are cleaning the filter way too soon, unless you drive on dusty roads all the time.

Best way to do it is put an even amount of the blue oil on the top of the fin's/ or what ever they are called. Let the cotton soak the oil in to it, lay the filter on a flat surface and let gravity do it’s magic, after that you will see that the oil has soaked in to almost all the filter. Where you see white put a little more oil and let it soak in, and keep repeating that step until you have the whole filter done. Whip any extra oil off of the filter and put a little of that oil on the rim of the filter to help it seal to your lid.

If you over oil you could cause some problems with your maf sensor.

one more thing let the filter dry all the way before re-oiling!

Is the oil too thick to put into a spray bottle? If not, goto the dollar store, and get a spray bottle to make application a little easier... just a thought.

I used my leftover K&N spray filter oil and now my Holley filter is red.

Works like a champ.

Happy driving,

I have heard of people using the f&n oil on the Holley, I think it would still work.

The oil for the Holley does seem a little thicker.

I did not like the k&n filter, cheaply made and cost way too much. The rubber had holes in it, the rubber also ripped right in the middle, so I had a nice sized hole for unfiltered air to come in. I super bonded it and gave it to a friend . he Hasn’t had any problems with it. I would not own any other filter after owning the Holley.

I have seen a few of the k&n fipk and they look like a nicely build product. I plan on sticking with my whisper lid; fast toys under the hood ram air kit with a sealed air box...

Dis,
Thanks, your right on the mark. I've had and been using K&N products for years.
Since the filter was visibly dirty that's exactly how I treated it.

Dino,
Did that too. I took the old pump off my K&N cleaner bottle, trimmed the tube because the Holley bottle is a little shorter, and it is too thick to become a mist.

I thought of spraying it with K&N red too. Not sure if the oil thickness was matched to the cotton or fiber in the Holley, didn't want to mix brands, besides I'm not ready for a purple filter, not yet.

So the out come here is my experiences are the same as what others are seeing.

Thanks
