IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
Friday I changed my oil with Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30, which is what I usually change it with. But this time I took suggestions from another LS1 enthusiast website and filled the AC Delco PF44 filter with oil before I put it back on. Now my oil pressure has dropped to 20 from the usual 40-45. I also used all six quarts. Please help!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
This might sound stupid, but did you make sure that you put the oil cap back on? Make sure the drain bolt had the washer on and was on tight? or the oil filter had a washer on and was secured tightly? Hope it works out for ya.

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
Filling the filter is a good idea and won't hurt anything, what about a bad oil filter and as 99 Trans Am has said check your cap. Unless you're using a larger oil filter (which PF44 isn't) I thought an LS1 used 5.5 quarts of oil?

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
I think everyone fills all 6 quarts. I looked, and the PF44 is the stock size. I forgot about filling the filter, but that shouldn't affect the pressure.

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
Yes the 5.7 liter holds 5.5 quarts but would'nt the oil filter filling take that .5 away? I just thought of it that way and put in the entire 6 quarts. My oil filter, oil pan plug, and oil cap are on tight. Maybe its the oil pump now or maybe it has too much oil. Guys, please give me your ideas about it.

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
You might want to go with a better oil filter ,period. I was having concerns over the wishy washy quality of the spin on service replacement filters. I now use a remotely located oil filter from Canton Racing Products. It doesn't use a bypass and flows 60 gallons per minute. Their website is www.cantonracingproducts.com
I use the remote filter adapter #22-593 for LS1's with the remote filter #25-100. I also use a racing oil called Neo Synthetic in 0-5w. It's the same **** used be the Benetton Formula One team. The neat thing about the filtration unit is that all you have to replace is the filter media inside the filter by taking apart the filter unit.

Re: IMPORTANT OIL FILTER QUESTION?
5.5 quarts of oil is what you should be using not 6.0, did you notice the drop in pressure as soon as you changed the oil or later? Before I would worry about the oil pump I'd install a new filter and use only 5.5 quarts of oil, also maybe it's time to move up to 10W/40 oil.
