i would say mac's are the best headers for the money $500.i hear flp headers are top of the line for $900 and you get cats to. is maybe 5 to 15 hp more worth the extra $400? if so you may want flp's. if not you want mac's.i have mac's and i'm happy with them. their are a lot of headers out,do some research and choose your needs. good luck. mike

you're right it would make a great debate, which is why Ive seen tons of them over the past year...just try a search on headers and you'll find discussions to your heart's content

Yes FLPs cost money, but i saved and it payed off because now i know i have one of the "best".

mike c; Where can you get FLP headers w/cats for $900? I've never seen them below $1200!

Thanks

based on the track results that people are reporting, the headers pretty much all perform the same.

what's different is clearance, ease of installation, and quality.

FLPs are the easiest to install, have the highest ground clearance, and the nicest welds and materials.

Tell me something men. Headers have came a long way since i was younger with my "78 Z28"! I had the hooker's on that car & it seemed like they only lasted a year or so before rusting through!
Here is my "?" Given my 2000 Z28 as a daily driver, how long do the headers of today last?? Looking to put some on my car. Thanks!

I personally own Jet-Hot coated MAC's (got 'em cheap) and have been pleased with them for the money.. They're relatively easy to install, and perform pretty well for a mid-length header. I've installed FLP's and Dynatech's (same difference), and they install easily.. Perform pretty darned well.. I was in the shop for a TTS header install, and they look like a very stout header. Went in pretty easily as well. This weekend I installed a set of Jet-Hot coated Hookers, and was simply blown away by the installation ease. The header is also a much better equal-length design than the FLP/Dynatech, etc. I love the smooth collector transition to the Hooker Y-pipe. I also like the fact it's a 3" Y-pipe.

Truth be known, I was so impressed with the Hookers, I ordered a set for my own car. Don't ask though, the MAC's are already sold

I've got a set of 1 7/8 Grotyohann Long Tubes. It's a really great set of headers, the Y-Pipe has more to be desired though. They are ceramic coated and just as pricey as the FLP, SLP and TTS setups. Performance wise with those and my Corsa exhaust I picked up 45 RWHP according to the dyno before and after. It also makes the Corsa sound pretty sweet! You can probably find some video clips off my website, as well as lots of pictures of the install.

what makes the long tubes better than a midlength header? and the y pipe with no cats to the cat back exhaust is better than with the cats correct? i have a friend that tells me that there wont be enough back pressure if i take off the cats....is he right or just blowing smoke...thanks guys....

If you take the cats off you will loose back pressure. But back pressure doesn't necessarily mean you're going to pickup any HP either. With some good tuning and minimal effort an off road setup will be pretty good. Personally I'm running cats so that I'm "legal", as if Michigan has emissions laws!

Longtubes versus midlength is always an interesting topic. I'm not really sure what the real argument is either way. Some would argue that you'll have higher torque and lower HP with midlengths and the opposite with longtubes.
