You guys that made your own egr blockoff plates; what did you use?

on the header i just cut off the pipe and welded it closed. On the manifold I used a 1 3/8 freeze plug

do i need to worry about losing/cracking/chipping/ruining my ceramic coating if i weld the hole?

no no no....Take off the egr. Cut the pipe close to where it bolts together with the header. Weld that opening closed there. So your not actually welding the header.
