a/c down?

a/c down? Had a new system (dryer and compressor) put in about 2 years ago.I haven't used it much and today it would not work.
Hope it isn't fryed again.I blew out the first one while racing through the gear with the air on.I have not done this since as it was an expensive mistake.
Any advise would be helpful.

Re: a/c down? its always a good idea to use your A/C every so often, even if it isnt hot outside. its good to give it a workout to get the refrigerant and oil moving around and lube everything up. Chances are, your system is out of refrigerant (R134a)... You are certain that the compressor doesnt come on? If so, if you have access to an AC machine, or just go down to kragen and buy a recharge kit, under 25 bucks.. and put a can of r134a in the system, one can comes with the kit. If after you put a can in, the ac works.. then that was your problem. But you wont know exactly how much refrigerant is in your system, after that point, you're best off goin to a shop, having them pull a vacuum on your system to determine major leaks, then recharge the system and add a dye. Then you can find the leak later on, if there is one. Hehe, i do this day in and day out, especially during the summer months, since i work for Lexus. our customers complain about everything.. hehe. hope all that helps!

Re: a/c down? Basically, just stick your head out the window with the hood up, and reach over and turn the ac on.. if you hear a loud click... thats the compressor turning on. If you hear it, and no cold air... then your system is undercharged. If you dont hear it come on, then its possible that there is either a very low amount or no refrigerant in the system.. or possibly a bad low pressure sensor or another electrical problem.

Re: a/c down? I went and bought a kit and some r134a.The kit came with a preasure gauge so I took a reading and it showed no preasure (0).I added about half a can and nothing changed.I can hear the compressor coming on so I'm not sure what to do at this point other than to go to my mechanic.

Re: a/c down? Thanks again for all the help.I guess I jumped to conclusion.After about 20 minutes on the second try it started working again.Maybe I didn't have the valve open all the way on the r134a can or maybe I just didn't give it enough time.It took on full can about 15 minutes to empty.
It works fine now and the presure tests normal on the high and low sides.
