i am running stock cats now, and i will be running cats after i get my exhaust work done, not sure what yet

but why do we even bother w/ cats, our systems are basically illegal after altering them in any way(thats going by what i read in another thread of mine "opinions on legal exhaust system")

what are the advantages and disadvantages of them

If you retain the stock manifolds and cats, and use a stock style Y-pipe and stock style catback (everything following the same routing, hangers, etc.) it is highly unlikely that you will fail any emissions inspections of any kind. Yes, technically it's federally illegal, but I don't beleive any state tests will fail you. I could be wrong, but I don't even think the CA guys have issues using stock-style aftermarket catbacks.

As for the poll, my current LS1 car is basically stock, so no point in pulling the cats.

If you are worried about the police run high flow cats. I never have run cats, but my car used to be lowered so that they couldnt tell if i had them or not. The sound will be way better without cats.

I shelled out big $ for the random tech high flows on my duals. I'm also !AIR and !EGR. IMO removing ALL emissions equipment is environmentally irresponsible.

What do you mean? You can see the smog surrounding downtown Dallas from Ft Worth. Cats don't have to hurt performance, there are options.

But there is a very low percentage of cars on the road that don't have cats....and the smog still exists.

Trucks, lawn mowers, generators, cold cats during startup... Why choose to pollute if you don't have to? That's all I'm saying...

I don't choose to. An off-road setup was 2x cheaper than buying highflow cats. I did it for price. If I could have had the option/money for cats I would have rather taken that route. the smell without cats is horrible.
