Default Check out my new ram air setup

This is a setup I came into with much aid from alan futral and gordon sevin. Gordon saw something similar on Judsons car when they were in Bowling Green and it acted as a guide.

We ran dual 4 inch aluminized hose up from the nose of the car by starting with the factory bumper support. Alan cut it to size and then rivited it in place. We then modified the core support and condensor to allow the 4 inch pieces to travel up to the airbox unmolested.
At this point we then sealed the airbox and blocked all air except that coming from the air tubes. I was running the factory air inlet in conjunction with FRA so I had alot of chopping up to block off. Aluminum tape made this easy as you will see in the pictures. So, I went on to add more foam to the bottom of my wisper lid in an effort to make it air tight against the filter. I also added a rubber three inch ring around the end of the lid to try and keep everything sealed.

Here is the result.

I hope to try this setup out in the heat tommorrow.

NICE! I was thinking about doing the same thing but wasn't sure about how much to trim the core support. Did you have to trim it much? Let me know how your track times. Good Luck.

Thats a great looking setup the only thing I would change is that K&N filter for a Holley power shot your first pic shows how uneven the filter area is on the K&N the power shot is even and gives you more filter area for breathing.

The distance between all that uneven filter area is a good 2 inches away from the ram air tubes. But, maybe your right. It couldnt hurt to try except for the steps I would have to take to seal the holley to the air lid.

That looks great, can you post some shots of the inlets? How are you managing possible water intake?

Glen we did have to trim the core support about 2 inches.

daddySS, when it rains all I do is open up the factory air inlet, and this is as simple as flattening out some aluminum tape. This depressurizes the system and it shouldnt suck up water. Of course I dont drive through standign water--ever, so Im not worried about that.

Look behind the grill to see the air inlets:

Sorry bro no pics. We put the car back together before I ever thought of photographing it. And I'm not trying to pull the bumper cover off any time soon

I can tell you this though. Alan simply sketched what he wanted to cut (roughly 4" hole) and cut it with a sawzall and then cleaned it up with a air-grinder. There are already 2 holes in the bumper support that we used as an initial guide, so its not like you have to guess too very much on where to put the holes. Really the whole set-up is not too hard once you see it done. Just having the proper tools and the right guy cutting up your car is all it takes

Here is my post of the track results, although I dont feel they are too conclusive because of a gang-bang of variables.

But I have some major differences in my setup. First of all I have the SLP cold air kit. I went and bought some pool vacuum hose (2.5-3" maybe?) and routed them from those stock holes in the bumper support up to the stock opening of the airbox. This did unpressurize my airbox that was once sealed. I really should have tested the results at the track with the hoses in and then with it sealed up with the SLPRA before I threw the rubber strip away. Oh well. Anyway, I would like to try your setup. It looks like you can get more air in than the FTRA or SLPRA and without blcoking the radiator. Thanks for the idea. BTW... is there any way I might be able to get the 4" hoses in front of the SLPRA unit on the underside of the airbox then seal all of that up? That should get me a hell of a lot more air with the sealed system. Is it worth a try?

Look at the pics of where I have the 2 hoses coming through. This is right where the SLP-RA would be. I dont think this will work with the stock air box because of size limitations. You're simply running out of width!

BUT! Have you seen the stealth air box and radiator support? That **** is big!! It might just be big enough to let you do both. Perhaps what you could do is route the Hoses on the outside of a custom ram air set-up that mimics the FTRA. Maybe you could use 3" hoses because of size limitations, and then make a custom FTRA-like setup to squeeze in the middle.

Sounds like a good idea, but alot of fab work too.

Of course I would need a bird's eye pic to be sure. But I do believe you're right about the Stealth lid but I just can't bring myself to spend $300 on a larger lid for a stock motor, especialy when I already have a Whisper lid. Maybe when I go bigger cubes I will do the sealed Stealth lid/SLPRA/4"tubes setup. I think it would kick ***. Or maybe I'm just beatin the dead dog having all these different ram air setups together... LOL.
