Help! Think I crossthreaded while putting headers on. I'm putting my headers on and I think I crossthreaded the head on the passenger side. It's the last one all the way in the back. I thoght it was in right because it went in a couple of turns just like the others. About halfway it doesn't want to go anymore. I don't know if there's dirt in there or what. Think I'm going to run a tap in there once. Anybody know the size tap for the 10mm exhaust manifold bolt. Get a tap, spray some wd-40 on the threads and slowly thread it in. It should be okay.
I did the same, I should know. Chewed up the first 4-5 threads in the head, put the tap in twice and it was good as new. No leaks.

Re: Help! Think I crossthreaded while putting headers on. I did the same. However, I went the overkill route and removed the head and had some heli-coil installed.

Re: Help! Think I crossthreaded while putting headers on. I ran into this on both sides the other day. The bolt is stronger than the aluminum head si I just put the bolt in half way, took it out, sprayed it off with wd-40, went in further, and repeated. Turned out ok.

Re: Help! Think I crossthreaded while putting headers on. Went over to my friend's house and his dad finally decided on that one. Once I got the tap started it wasn't that bad. Couldn't get it started very easy and didn't want to screw it up more. Had to take a smoke break to calm myself down. Was feeling very depressed. Once I got it going I was all excited and felt better. Thanks.
