Just put in a new starter and now if I start the car after it's been sitting for a couple hours or more it resets the PCM and the guages reset as well as the tripometer.
Any ideas?

I dont know if its "resetting " your computer. It just spikes the gauges and resets the trip meter. My 99 TA used to do it only when it was very cold out. There is a TSB out on it. Last month it started doing it everytime I started the car. A weak battery will casue this problem. I changed the battery and problem is gone. Look there.

There is a service bulletin about the gauges resetting themselfs, I believe the number is 990849009. Two things that I know of that can cause this problem are, a weak battery or a bad gauge cluster. Check with you dealer and see if it's covered under warranty, good luck.

I had exact problem. It was the battery on its way out the door. Apparently the connectors had corroded, and I also found my battery mount had been completely eaten through by acid, and I need to get the bolt drilled out. Looks like my new one is doing it now too..

It doesn't spike the PCM, but does reset the trip and make the gauges go wild. Never cause a problem, just got use to it.

I had this occur on my 99 last year. Dealer replaced my entire front console. They had to talk with Pontiac and Pontiac knew of the issue and sent a replacement console.
When I started the car my trip would reset and my gauges would spike.
Mine was under warranty.
Best of luck
