Default Planned Mods

I will be taking delivery of my new SS in a couple of weeks. It will have the 345hp package. I plan to add CAI, SLP LT headers and cats, and MAFT. How much additional HP will these mods generate in net and rwhp.

I was also wondering if I should add the SLP 85mm MAF or would I be better off leaving the stock MAF on the car. I've heard that adding the 85mm MAF does do much for the 02 SS.

Thanks

the stock MAF sensors barely flow enough air to feed ls1's in stock form let along what you plan to do. keep in mind....the art of adding performance to any car is a balance of air being put through the engine versus the air being pushed out of the engine. thus you must rethink your statement and begin doing this --> for even saying something like that about the SLP 85mm MAF. you would be correct that it does nothing for stock engines but since you're modifying your SS you'll need that increased airflow. you can expect about 25-30(modest)hp from your long-tubes and cats, my suggestion is to go with an ORY because late models have no trouble passing without cats. you may be able to squeeze as much as 10-15hp out with the MAFT but you'll need a diagnostic program such as ATAP or PCM COMM to check your changes

There are 500rwhp cars with stock maf's. And "passing" without cats? Please..there isn't a state in this country that its legal to not have cats so I don't know what he's talking about "passing" unless the testing guy is blind and can't see under the car.

Do the maf later..its a non-issue, do get some nice headers (SLP's are fine but harder to install than others), you will get a lot more power without cats but if staying legal is an issue then don't worry about it and just put some high flow ones on. As for the maft, don't get it and just save up for LS1 edit. 100x more functionality and it has stuff you'll need later down the line.

dude,

The SLP long tube headers come with a 3" y -pipe. The high flow cats are extra of course, and I recommend their install kit (kind of shitty they make you buy it when the headers cost so much already) because it has the o2 extensions (gotta have em)and the EGR and AIR gaskets and clamps and heat shielding (which you will need where the passenger side headers touch some wire harnesses).
If you do the header install yourself, I recommend getting a helper as they are a bitch to install. I know.

Ohh NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Don't get those crapy SLP headers!! Go with FLP or TTS if you want cats. If you don't want cats. Hookers or Grotyohanns

SLP's are spaghetti

I have been over 1/2 second faster with my Grotyohanns! NO ****!!! On average I am 3.5 - 4 tenths faster!

Thanks for the info. Do they come with a Y-pipe or would that have to be purchased separately.

ssdude,

Don't let the opinion of one person be your deciding factor. SLPs are very good headers, just a bit more difficult to install than hookers. I can't say about the others as those are the only two I have installed.
If you read the thread on the argument for straight headers vs tunned headers you will see that there wasn't a unanimous decision, only disagreements and arguing.
Naturally everyone wants to be believe that the product they bought is the absolute best. But I think you will find that all long tubes will benefit your motor even if they do vary a little in performance. I personally don't think the variance between one long tube to the next is enough to argue about. Just don't get shorty headers.
