Default Lower temps in engine compartment

don't know if this is being done already, but it seems to work. After I drive my car I pop the hood to let engine heat out. I noticed that there is a rubber strip attached to the firewall to seal the hood (probably to keep water out). This strip also holds a ton of engine heat in the engine compartment. With the hood open I poped the strip off (held in place by plastic push pins) and closed the hood. It leaves about an inch of space along the entire length of the rear of the hood. I washed the car with this strip removed and got very little to no water in the engine compartment. I was careful no to direct a blast of water to that area. My car is a weekend warrior, and never sees rain <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> , so water is not a BIG concern. This seems to work great as a heat extractor. Let me know what you guys (and girls) think pros/cons??? The computer is right there and that scares me a little, but if there was some way to seal the top of the computer without making it look ghetto(plastic bag) this may work for some of you daily drivers.

There are two bolts that hold the pcm in place
in its holder/mount thing. I bet you can fabricate
something out of sheet metal or plastic that would
cover the PCM from water / dirt ect from falling
in the connector from above..

I can tell you that if this part comes off and
replaces easy then its a must for working on
cam installs/headers plugs ect..

Ill look at my setup and see what its like to
remove. Good idea!!!

I've been doing that for a few years now during the dry months. Once Fall rolls around I usually put it back on due to rain (my car is a daily driver).

Great idea. What if you just cut some ventilation holes in the strip instead? Maybe put some black screen over the holes?
