I am having problems with my 99 T/A. I only notice problem in closed loop and at low rpm's(steady cruising) Car will start to shudder and miss and progressivly get worse to the point that I have to let off gas and put the car in neutral(6 speed)If I drop down a gear and accelerate hard it will clear up. Additional problems that have appeared are during start up( not all the time about 1 out 4 start ups) all gauge needles will peg and max out then settle back down. Third symtom is trip odometer will reset itself at random times.
This started about two weeks ago and the only changes to the car at this time was reinstallation of heads, ls6 valley plate, intake.
and also had starter take a crap on me about this time , so that was replaced.
The items that I have checked are the 3 grounds to the back of drivers head, all ground straps are in place with no breaks. I also rechecked wiring to starter and (had a local chev dealership look at the wiring to starter also)
This problem was really noticed the minute that the car went into closed loop after starter was installed.
Car has a stroker motor with ed wright tuning. No ses lights have shown up
Thanks for any advice , as I am stumped and am not sure where to look

Needles peg, trip odometer resets to zero - you came to the right place! Actually, I'm not done with the dealer yet on that issue. The first time I took it in, they "sent it out for repair". a few days later, it did it again. Then, I got the TSB on it. I told the service rep about it the second time I went in. Just got it back yesterday - so far, so good - except now, the water temp gauge pegs when I turn the ignition off!!! And there's oily smudge marks on the black background! Maroone Chevrolet of Greenacres, Florida SUCKS - SUCKS - SUCKS!
Here's the TSB -
Trip Odometer - Automatically Resets to Zero
Trip Odometer Resets to Zero

Trip Odometer Resets To Zero
(Exchange/Install Instrument Cluster)
1999 Chevrolet Camaro
1999 Pontiac Firebird
Condition: Some customers may comment that the trip odometer resets to zero when starting the engine.
Cause: Ambient temperatures below 0°C (32°F), combined with low battery voltage, may cause the trip odometer memory to be erased when starting the vehicle.
... The Tech 2 will now display the instrument panel cluster part number. If the part number is shown in the table as the old part number, install a new part number exchange cluster which has had the new circuit board with the non-volatile memory chip installed. Order the cluster from your A/C Delco(R) Service Center. DO NOT ORDER A CLUSTER FROM GMSPO.
PS - obviously, ambient temperature has nothing to do with it, seeing how its like 157 degrees down here in so. florida!!! I think my battery is getting weak, and I get a "low voltage" condition when I start the car.

Battery condition is extremely important on these computerized vehicles, positive posts can leak acid from being overtightened, so check both, any signs of corrosion on positive post is dead giveaway. Dealer has tester that can diagnose bad cells etc.

I definitely agree with it being battery related, but the instrument cluster should also get changed out with a modified one - with NON-VOLATILE memory, so the trip odometer doesn't keep resetting.
On my car, the positive battery cable connector has green corrosion coming out of it. I'm sure this has something to do with my "low battery" condition, as they state it in the TSB.

Hey, just my 2 cents. I had this problem with my 99 Z ( stock) I replaced the battery and haven't had a problem since! Only other problems have been when I put octane boost in to race ( 95% humidity) This caused a SES which cleared on the next tank of fuel. Also got some bad fuel on a recent trip to Cali. Well, good luck and check your battery/charging system
